Dear Parent/Guardian of Cassidy Nolan,

It has been my pleasure to tutor Cassidy this semester. Cassidy’s tutoring sessions
were designed to include individualized, tailored literacy instruction in the areas of
oral reading fluency, word knowledge (spelling/phonics/sight words),
comprehension, and writing.

Recently, I administered several progress monitoring assessments to gauge

Cassidy’s growth since September. Cassidy is making consistent gains in automatic
word recognition and word knowledge. The ability to read words automatically
within a fraction of a second is a marker of proficient readers. Cassidy automatically
reads isolated preprimer (70%) and primer level (45%) words with accuracy. When
given additional time to decode these same words, Cassidy’s accuracy improves to
100% at the preprimer and 50% at the primer level. These findings, along with her
oral reading, suggest that Cassidy is reading on a primer instructional reading level.

Cassidy’s word study, or spelling instruction, goes hand-in-hand with the

improvements in automatic word recognition and decoding. Despite an initial
assessed need for more instruction in spelling short medial vowel words, Cassidy is
now more consistent in accurately representing short medial vowel words (i.e., beg,
dot, cat, etc.). Presently, our focus of instruction has turned to more challenging
final blends, such as -ck while still including practice with short medial vowels (stick,
peck, dock, etc.).

I am very pleased with the progress Cassidy is making. She is a pleasure to work
with and I look forward to his continued gains over the coming weeks. Should you
have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at 434-YYY-
YYYY.

Sincerely,

Cassidy Taber
