Opening Voluntary All Glory, Laud, and Honor – Malcolm Archer

Liturgy of the Palms

Celebrant: Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord.
People: Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.
Celebrant: Let us pray.
Assist us mercifully with your help, O Lord God of our salvation, that we
may enter with joy upon the contemplation of those mighty acts, whereby
you have given us life and immortality; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 21:1-11

When they had come near Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage, at the
Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, ‘Go into the
village ahead of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt
with her; untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you,
just say this, “The Lord needs them.” And he will send them immediately.’
This took place to fulfil what had been spoken through the prophet, saying,
‘Tell the daughter of Zion, Look, your king is coming to you, humble, and
mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’

The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; they brought the
donkey and the colt, and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them. A
very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches
from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of

him and that followed were shouting, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the
highest heaven!’ When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil,
asking, ‘Who is this?’ The crowds were saying, ‘This is the prophet Jesus
from Nazareth in Galilee.’

Blessing of Palms
Celebrant: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.
Celebrant:
It is right to praise you, Almighty God, for the acts of love by which you
have redeemed us through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. On this day he
entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph, and was proclaimed as King
of kings by those who spread their garments and branches of palm along his
way. Let these branches be for us signs of his victory, and grant that we who
bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the
way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns in glory with you and the
Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

Celebrant: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.
Celebrant: Let us go forth in peace.
People: In the name of Christ. Amen.

The Procession

Collect of the Day

Celebrant: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Let us pray.
Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you
sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to
suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility:

3
Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also
share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and
reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayers of the People

Heavenly Father, you have promised to hear when we pray in the name of
your Son. Therefore, in confidence and trust we pray for the Church:

Father, enliven the Church for its mission that we may be salt of the earth
and light to the world.

Breathe fresh life into your people. Give us power to reveal Christ in word
and action.

We pray for the world:

Creator of all, lead us and every people into ways of justice and peace.
That we may respect one another in freedom and truth. Awaken in us a
sense of wonder for the earth and all that is in it. Teach us to care creatively
for its resources.

We pray for the community:

God of truth, inspire with your wisdom those whose decisions affect the
lives of others that all may act with integrity and courage. Give grace to all
whose lives are linked with ours. May we serve Christ in one another, and
love as he loves us.

We pray for those in need:

God of hope, comfort and restore all who suffer in body, mind or spirit.

4
May they know the power of your healing love. Make us willing agents of
your compassion. Strengthen us as we share in making people whole.

We remember those who have died and those who mourn:

We remember with thanksgiving those who have died in the faith

of Christ, and those whose faith is known to you alone. Father, into your
hands we commend them. Give comfort to those who mourn. Bring them
peace in their time of loss.

We praise you for The Ever-Blessed Virgin Mary and all your saints
who have entered your eternal glory. May their example inspire and
encourage us.

Concluding Collect:
This hour we turn to you, O Lord, in full knowledge of our frailty, our
vulnerability, and our great need as your mortal creatures. We cry to you, as
one human family, unsure of the path ahead, unequal to the unseen forces
around us, frightened by the sickness and death that seem all too real to us
now. Stir up your strength and visit us, O Lord; be our shield and rock and
hiding place! Guide our leaders, our scientists, our nurses and doctors. Give
them wisdom and fill their hearts with courage and determination. Make
even this hour, O Lord, a season of blessing for us, that in fear we find you
mighty to save, and in illness or death, we find the cross to be none other
than the way of life. All this we ask in the name of the One who bore all our
infirmities, even Jesus Christ our Risen and Victorious Lord. Amen

Lord’s Prayer

Let us pray in the words our Savior Christ has taught us:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass
against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For
thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Prayer over the People

5
Almighty God, we pray you graciously to behold this your family, for whom
our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed, and given into the hands
of sinners, and to suffer death upon the cross; who lives and reigns for ever
and ever. And the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit be
with you now and forever.
