To the members of the selection committee,

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I am writing this letter to express my full support to Dyah Titis Kusuma Wardani
who is applying for Beasiswa Unggulan MandiriBiro Perencanaan dan
Kerjasama Luar Negeri, Sekretariat Jenderal Kementerian Pendidikan Nasional,
Indonesia. I know her well given that he was my student in the International
Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation (ISTAC), International Islamic
University Malaysia (IIUM) as well as my student whom I supervised.

In over one semester experience interacting with Dyah Titis, I have been having
the opportunity to understand her motivation and her significant efforts to be a
good student. She is a hardworker student, particularly in excellerating her work
on research, since she is PhD student by research. Her dissertation title is the
International Trade Policy of Indonesia and Turkey towards the OIC Countries:
the Political Economy Analysis. In addition, her curiosity about her courses and
dissertationseems to be above average.

To myknowledge, Dyah Titis has shown good academic and non-academic

achievements during her study. She is joining some conferences and workshops
during her study. In her second semester, she participated and written a paper on
Islam & Science: An Educational Approachworkshop at ISTAC is held by
International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC), International
Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in association with the American University
of Sharjah (UAE) and the Université Interdisciplinaire de Paris (France). In the
same semester she joined the 2nd International Conference on Contemporary
Scholarship on Islam: The Legacy of Ismail Raji Al-Faruqi organised by
Department of Usuluddin & Comparative Religion, KIRKHIS, IIUM in
cooperation with University College of Sultan Azlan Shah (KUISAS) and writing
an essay on Al-Faruqi’s Notions of Islamised Knowledge and Its
Operationalisation in the Context of Modern Economics.

The fact that in 2009-2011 she was awarded an Australian Development

Scholarship for a master’s level study at the Australian National University is a
solid evidence of her competence.

Even though I am sure that she is qualified for a doctoral study in economic
fields, but she has determined to continue her study on contemporary Muslim
world issues especially issues in economic. In my opinion, this is a good decision
as it can help her to pursue her long-time interest in Islamic economics and
combine her current expertise in international and development economics with
deeper understanding on contemporary issues in Muslim countries.

I believe that ISTAC, with its renowned faculty members and international
networks, is one of the best places to nurture her potential. Therefore, I would
like to appreciate the members of the selection committeeBeasiswa Unggulan
Mandiri Biro Perencanaan dan Kerjasama Luar Negeri, Sekretariat Jenderal
Kementerian Pendidikan NasionalIndonesia most favorite considerations to give
her a scholarship and it would be a great pleasure for me to see her doing doctoral
study in our institute with your fully support in scholarship.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Abdulahil Ahsan
