I am writing on behalf of Kaile Nommerga Sansbury, a second year, student dental hygienist at Thomas
Nelson Community College (TNCC), with whom I have been acquainted since September 2019. Our initial
encounter was during an orientation session I was conducting for Kaile and her classmate to serve as
Student Delegates at the 66th House of Delegates of the Virginia Dental Hygienists’ Association (VDHA).
Kaile has distinguished herself among her classmates by attaining the prestigious leadership positions of
Vice President of the Student Chapter of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and Student Delegate
to the Virginia Dental Hygienists’ Association (VDHA). In my capacity, as the Peninsula Trustee on the
Executive Board of VDHA, I became Kaile’s mentor. In her role as Student Delegate, she was well prepared,
intellectually curious, a good listener, and comfortably assertive to engage the public speaking and
collaborative teamwork demanded in this leadership position. I was especially impressed with her ability
to think quickly on her feet when faced with the unexpected request to present oral testimony to the House
of Delegates and did so with poise, confidence and clarity.
Over the course of time we have been together sharing experiences of a professional development
workshop, continuing education courses, local professional association business meetings and the 2020
Rally Day at the Capital. Qualities that make her stand out as a self-directed, organized, intelligent,
energetic, considerate, and friendly person have been consistently exhibited by Kaile. It has been brought
to my attention that in her school environment she has taken the lead on many projects and managing its
logistics along with engaging community service of educating preschool children in the Newport News
Smart Beginnings Program.
As a Past President of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA), former Chair of Old Dominion
University’s School of Dental Hygiene and clinician with over 40 years of experience, I am confident Kaile
will continue to make a positive difference as she enjoys her successful and rewarding career. I commend
her lifelong learning enthusiasm and aspiration to obtain the baccalaureate degree in Dental Hygiene from
Old Dominion University while simultaneously serving others as a healthcare professional.
I enthusiastically recommend Kaile Nommerga Sansbury knowing she will continue to be an asset to the
profession of Dental Hygiene and those she serves.
Sincerely,
