1. Executive Summary
STI Engineering LLC along with VIA International undertook on 25th February 2015 a non-intrusive site
survey at the existing SSF Camp at Qabal, Musandam, Sultanate of Oman. In continuance with this, STI
engineering LLC established an independent team charged with the tasks of analysing the present MEP
systems and submit a comprehensive report to the client.

2. Objective
The general intent of the survey was as follows:
 To evaluate the general condition of the existing systems.
 To generally review the existing systems for code compliance and the possibility of reuse for a
new facility at this location.
 Prepare a report with written description and analysis of the current conditions and issues.
The conditions of the existing systems indicated herein are from visual inspection only, and visual
inspection allows for evaluating the condition of equipment and systems by experience only.
The true condition of the equipment and systems can only be ascertained by testing both operational and
the structural condition of the equipment and systems, neither of which was included in this evaluation.
Therefore, we recommend retaining the services of a qualified service technician to evaluate the condition
of existing equipment being considered for replacement; it is possible that some equipment may have a
significantly longer service life than any life expectancy values indicated in this survey.

3. Methodology
We visited the Camp premises and conducted surveys of the existing MEP systems to assess the general
physical condition of all related plant and equipment. Existing mechanical and electrical drawings from the
original building design were not available for STI to evaluate system characteristics and details regarding
the existing equipment types, capacities and configurations.
Our assessment is based upon our site observation, referencing accepted industry practices and our
professional experience. Significant deferred maintenance conditions as well as the overall condition of the
major equipment items were noted.
Interviews were conducted with maintenance staff to inquire about past improvements, repairs, and for
their knowledge of system operating history and existing defects, if any.
Unless otherwise noted, information regarding capacities of existing equipment has been obtained from
field observations.

4. General Description of Mechanical Services

4.1.1. Air Conditioning

The existing Accommodation, Kitchen, Recreation and the Bumker buildings are Air
Conditioned by means of Window & Wall mounted type Split Air Conditioners. All the
existing Air Conditioing equipment are beyond their expected life span.

4.1.2. Ventilation
The Kitchens are ventilated with industrial type wall mounted extract fans with a hood
arrangement.
The toilets are ventilated with wall mounted domestic type extract fans.
There is no dedicated fresh air systems have been provided in any of the buildings.
All the existing Ventilating equipment are beyond their expected life span.

4.1.3. Cold Water Storage

The building water supply system appear to be original, however, they do function.
Deficiencies were noted and are included in the Mechanical sections of this report.
The source of cold water is an existing 200mm dia. bore well.
The water from the bore well is directly pumped to a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant by
means of a submersible Pump.
The RO plant then treat the water and stores in a small product water storage tank.
The product water from this storage tank then pumped to the GRP water storage
tanks located at the highest elevation in the Camp area by means of a transfer Pump
located adjucent to the RO plant.
The water tanks are located at the highest elevation in the plot in order to get an
adequate gravity pressure in the distribution pipes.
uPVC underground pipes are used for transferring cold water from RO to the
elevated storage tanks.

4.1.4. Cold Water Services

The domestic cold water is fed from the elevated water storage tanks with gravity
pressure by means of underground uPVC distribution pipes.

4.1.5. Hot Water Services

Water heating is accomplished by localized electric Water heaters for all buildings.

467789194.docx 4 of 10
4.1.6. Drainage system
The gravity Sewer drainage system comprised of an undergorund RC Septic tank
and a series of RC Manholes.

4.1.7. Fire fighting system

Portable fire extinguishers are provided for the Generator & RO Plants. There is no
water based or fixed fire fighting systems currently installed within in the Camp.

4.1.8. Landscape Irrigation

Drip irrigation pipes are connected to the underground cold water supply lines.

5. General Description of Electrical Services

5.1.1. Power Systems

The existing power distribution and lighting system appear to be adequate for the
existing facilities.
The main power source is an existing 11 KVA transmission line passing nearby the
Camp. Power is brought to the buildings via a 315 KVA Transformer located at the
utility areas which is outside the Camp facility. Power distribution for the Camp is
done by underground cables.
A standby Power generating station comprising of three diesel Generators is
available for the Camp and its utility areas. Each Generator has a capacity of 169
KVA and a total of 507 KVA power is available as standby.

5.1.2. Electrical Lighting

Ligting for the Jetty area is done with a Light Post. The Camp and the court yards are
lit with building external lights.

5.1.3. Telecommunication Systems

Telecommunications services are brought to the Camp via data transmission towers.
The telephone distribution equipment is located in one of the main store rooms and
appears to be in good condition, and adequate for future use.

5.1.4. Fire Alarm Systems
There is no Fire alarm systems currently installed for the Camp.
