“People in today’s world live for attention.
” Justify this sentence in
context of today’s world in about 500 words.
It is our human nature to fight for attention, but we don’t get it as we want. We all want to show-off in front of others and want to make them realize our value. But, frankly speaking, I feel we are all a bunch of attention seekers. For me, the entire concept of social media is based on attention seeking. It’s truly amazing how instagram, twitter and Facebook have changed our perception towards things and the way we live. People are seen wearing certain kinds of clothes, eating certain kinds of cuisine, listening to that trending music just to grab attention from somebody else. We all are so busy in seeking attention that we don’t give attention to anyone else which raises a question “who has the time to give attention to someone else?” If we look out in the past, this attention seeking habit of ours had started long before. Our innate sense to belong to a society and be treated as someone special might be the cause behind our excessive attention seeking habit. If you are someone of value, then all the people in the community respect your ideas, you are given huge respect by the community and people come to you for advice. Furthermore, the opposite sex will want to mate with you and after all this, your rate of survival increases. However, all of this has evolved much more rapidly than anticipated as our society has evolved faster than our minds and bodies. When once our attention seeking habit was treated as a survival instinct, today our attention seeking habit has led us to problems like depression and anxiety. Our attention-seeking nature has increased self-consciousness which has negatively impacted our natural tendency to think and our creativity. Being self-conscious has made us question our every move. We think about what we eat, what we wear to a party, how we walk and even how we think. All of this is not bad, but sometimes it doesn’t work in our favor. We can find people panicking about how they look or what people think about them. This excessive self-consciousness has pushed us to live in constant fear. We don’t open ourselves and always pretend to be someone else. These are some of the reasons why we should cure this deadly disease inside us before it’s too late. Rather than seeking attention, we should learn to pay attention. Being fully attentive to the task at hand is most probably the best thing we can do for ourselves. We shape our life through the things we prioritize the most. Our intensity of attention towards a work determines the success of work. So, according to me, we should utilize the time we spend in attention-seeking and channel it towards something productive.
