FPSO/ FLNG PIPING STRESS ANALYSIS

INTRODUCTION:

The purpose of this document is to highlight various basic requirements of

FPSO /FLNG piping stress analysis in design and engineering phase.
All results are within acceptable level and mechanical integrity of supports, equipment
connections in all conditions of operation life of plant as well as installation testing and
transportation condition.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

 Ensure all pipe stress calculations are comply with engineering standard and
regulatory codes.
- Define applicable codes, technical requirements,& methods

 Calculations are performed uniformly using common methods and procedures.

- develop analysis specifications , guidelines, procedures, softwares

 Define stress organization and work flow methods.

 Establish that all Stress analysis problems are properly reviewed and addressed.
identify critical lines , level of criticality and critical line list.

 Calculation revision control and tracebility.

 Work progress monitoring & status

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT & LOAD CONDITIONS

In addition to normal loads such as weight , pressure, thermal, wind following

special load conditions to be considered in analysis.

Inertial accelerations: Induced accelerations due to hull pitch , roll, heave motions
shall be considered in sustained stress check. - Acceleration values will be given by
structural group.

Structural deflection: structural deflections due to hull pitch , roll, heave motions,
Shall be considered and maximum displacement stress range shall be satisfied.
Deflection values will be given by structural group.
Phase difference if any between various module deflection shall be suitably considered.
Hogging and sagging : horizontal and vertical displacements due to hull deflections
shall be considered and maximum displacement stress range shall be satisfied.
Deflection values at various locations/ levels will be given by structural group.

During initial phase (preliminary) deflection values are taken as per structural design
basis but later stage these deflections values shall refined based on actual structural
design output . Input to be provided by structural .

Blast load analysis : Piping systems required to be designed for blast occurrence will
be identified by safety group (hydrocarbon, firewater piping)and blast wave over
pressure will be given.
Such piping systems and supports shall be designed (similar to wind loading) and
admissible stress limit to be assured to avoid failures and loses.

Fatigue strength Evaluation : FPSO s will be exposed to constant environmental loads

which will cause accelerations and structural deflections which are cyclic in nature.
Stress amplitude shall be calculated for given life of plant and fatigue integrity to be
ensured providing sufficient flexibility.
Deflection and associated number of cycles will be given by structural .Based on this
stress amplitude and cumulative damage factor to be calculated.

 All flanged joints shall be checked for external loads(bending

moments) to avoid leakage.
 Define allowable nozzle loads during early stage of project along
with specialist.
 Nozzle loads loads on static equipments, Exchangers , packages
rotating equipments to be kept within allowable specified by
specialist .If it is not possible to comply actual loads to be passed
to specialist for checking and necessary action.

Towing condition: All piping systems shall be checked for towing state accelerations,
structural deflections and stress levels and nozzle loads shall be maintained within
allowables .Additional temporary supports to be provided , or disconnect the nozzle if
required but to be kept minimum.
