1 Scope

This Specification together with the Purchase Order and appropriate Specification
Sheet(s) covers the minimum requirements of materials and fabrication of precast
concrete fence posts, intermediate posts, straining posts, and straining posts at gates and
struts.

2 Conflicts and Deviations

2.1 Any conflicts between this specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco
Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs),
Standard Drawings (SASDs) or industry standards, codes, and forms shall be
resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the
Manager, Consulting Services Department.

2.2 Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company or
Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company procedure SAEP-302
and forward such requests to the Manager, Consulting Services Department of
Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

3 References

Material or equipment supplied to this specification shall comply with the latest edition
of the references listed below, unless otherwise noted.

4 Materials

4.1 General

All materials used in the production and test units shall be the same as the
approved samples.

4.2 Portland Cement

4.2.1 The cement shall be Type I Ordinary Portland Cement and shall be in
accordance with SSA 143 and the Optional Composition Requirements
of ASTM C150, Table 2.

4.2.2 Mill test certificates shall be provided for each shipment of cement.
Under no circumstances shall the source of cement be changed without
prior written approval of Purchaser.

4.2.3 Quality control, packaging and storage shall be in accordance with


ASTM C150. Cement shall be stored in weather-tight buildings, bins, or
silos which will exclude moisture.

4.3 Mixing Water

Mixing water shall be in accordance with Saudi Aramco Materials System


Specification 09-SAMSS-097 paragraph 5.1.3.1

4.4 Aggregates

Aggregate shall comply with Saudi Aramco Material Specification 09-SAMSS-


088. The maximum nominal size of the aggregate shall be 10 mm.

4.5 Admixtures

When used, admixtures shall be in accordance with Saudi Aramco Materials


System Specification 09-SAMSS-097 paragraph 5.1.7.

4.6 Reinforcement

Reinforcement steel bars shall conform to SASO SSA 2, hot-rolled, high tensile,
deformed steel and epoxy coated per 09-SAMSS-106. These bars shall be
acceptable under the ACI 318M specified limitation of 422 MPa (60.0 ksi).

ACI 318M reinforcing specifications are based on ASTM metric standards.


Design and specification variances from use of SSA 2 and SSA 224 metric
Standard shall be considered and documented.

5 Fabrication

5.1 Strength

Compressive strength of the concrete shall be a minimum of 28 MPa (4000 psi)


at 28 days when tested in accordance with ASTM C39.

5.2 Slump

Concrete slump shall not exceed 75 mm.

5.3 Curing

Concrete shall be cured using a liquid curing compound in accordance with


ASTM C309 "Liquid Membrane-Forming Compounds for Curing Concrete."
Steam curing may be used as an alternate in accordance with ACI 517.2R-92
"Accelerated Curing of Concrete at Atmospheric Pressure-State of the Art."

5.4 Details and Dimensions

Details and dimensions shall be as shown on Standard Drawing AA-036754,

5.5 Forms

Forms shall remain rigid during placing and compaction of the concrete, prevent
loss of water, cement or aggregates, and yield a finished product meeting the
specified tolerances.

5.6 Finish

The surface shall be smooth and free from honey-combing or blemishes.

5.7 Tolerances

5.7.1 The following tolerances shall apply to all the specified dimensions:
Cross Section + 6 mm (¼ in), - 4 mm (3/16 in)
Length + 38 mm (1-½ in), - 12 mm (½ in)

5.7.2 Chamfer all edges, 6 mm. Tops shall be rounded.


Exception:

Except for the cranked tops, posts shall be of the same cross section
throughout their length, subject to the demolding draw allowance of 4 mm.

6 Quality Requirements

6.1 Quality Program

A Quality Control program which ensures compliance with this Specification


shall be submitted for Saudi Aramco's approval prior to the start of fabrication.
The approved program shall be adhered to by the Contractor.

6.2 Inspection Requirements

A test unit shall be produced for the Buyer's inspection using the forms and
concrete mix proportions, admixtures and methods, texture, finish and strength
that are proposed for production work. When the test is approved, the
fabrication of the production units can proceed.
