TOPIC
As per inscriptions found in the south wall of the temple, the shrine was constructed by
the Chola king Kulothunga Chola III as a memorial of his successful North Indian
campaign.
AIM
The aim of the project is to study the issues faced by the handloom industry in
Thirubuvanam (kumbakonam) and issues faced by the weavers in study area. And
prepare a project proposal that will uplift the face of the industry and town.
OBJECTIVE
To study the industry and identify the issues faced by the weavers
To know the background of handloom industry and weavers in study area
To examine the social & economic condition of handloom weavers in the study
area.

SCOPE OF DESIGN
The study is to intended to focus on the “The study on handloom weavers” with
special reference to Thirubuvanam town (kumbakonam). The growth of the
handloom weavers has reduced due to lack of infrastructure and organization for the
control and production of products. With the proposal of the right infrastructure and
program, the disappearing industry can be revived.
OUTCOME OF DESIGN
To design a space that stays within the spirit of the occupation but uplifts the face of
the industry.
To design a space that will be a culmination of activities for the handloom industry to
be used teaching, protection, marketing and tourist destination.
The temple was built by the Kulottunga Chola III of the Later Cholas, who

The handloom project in THIRUBUVANAM has limiting the site by 12 acres and
design a space to weavers by following requirements.
