This study is sought to determine the acceptability of an alugbati (Basella Alba L.) fruits
Specifically it sought to determine of the general public accepts the color in terms of
crayon.
METHODOLOGY
This chapter deals to discuss about the procedures andmethods that we will be
conducting in this study. This will present a description of the research design selection
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study entitled “The Genral Acceptability of Alugbati (BasellaRubra L.) Fruit as an
Organic Pigment for making Crayons”. In this study, The researchers aim to help the children
especially the students to be safe from the harmful effects of commercialized crayons that may
bring some bad health benefits to human being when intake by making an organic crayons
According to Bharti, the art supplies available in the market today are made with synthetic
ingredients that’s why he wanted to develop something that wasn’t harmful to children. He
works with plant-based dyes used in textiles. He explains that they have established a model
wherein local farmers cultivate wastelands to grow their raw materials. Also he explains that the
raw materials are sun dried and the colors extracted at their dyeing unit.
Also, Dr. Usha Elango (2018), said that regular crayons are made with paraffin wax
and ingredients like polyethylene that are not safe for a child. If the thin sticks are
The researcher surveys in twenty people at three places in Sto. Tomas Biñan, Laguna,
Barangay Maduya, and Barangay Mabuhay Carmona, Cavite. They surveyed in ten young
and ten adult people who are students and parents. The people who been surveyed are not
related to the researcher. The range of the respondents age were about 14–63 years old.
PHASE I
The main ingredients that needed in making organic crayon are Alugbati Fruits and
beeswax. To get these materials, we go to one of our co-researchers in her grandmother’s farm
to harvest alugbati fruits. Then, we bought the beeswax through online because it is hard to find
in markets. When the fruit is extracted to be a juice we remove the solid particles of the alugbati.
We put the liquid form of pigment in flat container and put it inside the oven. About 10-15
As the alugbati fruits turn into powder, we started to create the organic crayon. First, we grate
the beeswax and soap and put it in a stainless steel flat container. Then place it in a steamer.
As the beeswax and melted, the researchers added the alugbati powdered pigment and mixed
it. After that, they place it in the molder and wait for 3-5 minutes until the product is ready to use.
PHASE II
To test if the organic crayon that we make is acceptable. We randomly picked 10 young
and 10 adult respondents. We ask their opinion about the pigment, texture and efficiency of our
product.
PHASE III
To test our product, we use it as a substitute color on one of the crayons. We tested it
on the paper and was able to found out that our product made from the pigment of alugbati fruit
STATISTICAL TREATMENT
In data analysis, applying and statistical method like calculating a mean to data, the
researcher calculate the mean so that we can prove the alugbati fruit can be an alternative
Based on the result of the data gathered, we conclude that the alugbati fruit can be use
a pigment in creating crayons. From the answerof the respondents, it can be determined that
the organic crayons which the researchers made is also the same like commercialized crayons.
In terms of color it has a mean score of 4.5 which means it is moderately acceptable and the
researchers' organic crayon can compete with the other commercial crayons. In terms of texture
it has a mean score of 3.5 which means it is moderately acceptable and the researchers' still
need to improve its texture in making organic crayon. Lastly, in terms of efficiency it has a mean
score of 4.5 which means it is moderately acceptable andcan compete with the other
commercial crayons. We conclude that our research prove that alugbati (Basella Alba L.) Fruit
If there are other researchers are interested in conducting this product the researchers
recommend to use other organic materials to be substitute for producing pigment, also do not fill
even a drop of water in the alugbati extract and keep on mixing the wax when making this
product.
