Are you aware about your sugar intake?


About the Film:
Sugar film is a documentary directed and actored by David Gameau, which he constitute
himself as a guinea pig. David, who is is accustomed in eating low amounts of sugar spend two
months or 60 days ingesting 40 teaspoons of sugar a day, an average intake of Austrailian people.
Additionaly, these 40 teaspoons will came from healthy products such as cereals, fruits, yogurts,
sport drinks, smoothies, baked beans and juices, we oftenly view these foods as healthy ones, but
in reality there were actually hidden sugar with this. From the conducted experiment, it was
discovered that sugar has a lot of severe effects such as : pot belly, lack of energy, a decrease in
motivation, mood swings , and craving for high amount of sugar, decline in mental state, fatty liver
and the like. Aside from these, one of the interesting fact, that David had discover, is that,
eventhough he is consuming 2300 calories per day, the same quantity of his consumption prior to
this experiment, he gains an additional 15 pounds on his waist, with that, we can infer that calories
have different impact on our body notwithstanding the quantity of the same.
Reflection :
As of todays era, most of the people consumes processed foods -- from the meals we eat
from the fast food restaurants, and ready to eat foods that we bought in our convenience stores,
and the drinks that we enjoy to indulge in our everyday lives, but little that we know, these foods
were a damage and a threat to our own health. These foods were high in sugar content, that turn
our health to risk, from the conducted experiment of David Gameau, a lot of simple to severe
effects can be experienced from sugar consumption, it was clearly evident from the film. Even the
so-called “healthy foods and beverages” that we could buy in our local food and market store
contains hidden sugar that less of us know, we regarded them as safe on our health, but we were
actually induce by their claims. Being aware of the adverse effects of sugary foods in our health,
we could now be cautious in our food consumption. According to the World Health Organization,
the recommended sugar intake must only be 12 teaspoons or less per day. We need to at least
consume five serves of vegetable and two serves of fruits on our average intake per day.
Health is always a wealth. Being healthy is a must for a longer life on earth. It is a wealth,
in the sense of, you need to give it importance and value in your life. I and my partner Shane, seeks
to live healthy, we need to take care of ourselves and by that, we need to be aware about my daily
consumption because it will constitute our overall health and well-being. The film promotes
awareness about the daily and regular consumption of humans, it brought us to realize the adverse
impact of sugar on our overall well-being, hence the film was a mind-opener, for us to be able to
monitor our sugar consumption, and ultimately to conquer it’s bad effects. The film was all about
minimalism when it comes to foods.

Ang kalusugan ay kayamanan. At ang kalusugang ito ay hindi lamang sa aspetong pisikal, kundi lalo
nang higit sa mental na aspeto, sapagkat ang ating pag-iisip ang may kinalaman sa pagkontrol ng lahat ng
ating mga ginagawa o ikinikilos at siya ring may kinalamang higit sa ating mga nalilikhang emosyon na
nagiging resulta ng ating mga aksyon. Kaya naman, napakahalaga na bawat isa sa atin ay mabigyang oras
ang kalagayan at kalusugan ng ating mentalidad. Nang sa gayon ay matamo natin ang pangkalahatang
kaayusan ng ating pagkatao.

Nakakalungkot isipin na sa kasalukuyang panahon, laganap ang isyu tungkol sa mental na kalagayan
ng mga tao sa mundong ito, mental, sa aspetong kalusugan. Nakakabagabag, sapagkat malaking bilang ang
nababalitang kaso, karamihan pa rito ay mga kabataan. At sa mas malalang sitwasyon, nauuwi ang dilemang
ito sa mga suicides na higit na nakaka-alarma. Kaya nangangailangan itong pag-ukulan ng pansin, sapagkat
hindi lamang ito isang simpleng isyu – buhay na ang usapan rito.

Napakahalaga na magkaroon ng mga adbokasiya, programa at mga aktibidad upang maipalaganap


ang mga impormasiyon tungkol sa aspetong mentalidad. Mahalagang maiparating sa bawat isa ang
importansya nang pagbibigay oras at pansin sa mental na kalagayan, at kung ano nga ba ang mga nararapat
na gawin upang makaiwas sa mga potensyal na problema sa pag-iisip na lubos na nakakaapekto sa kabuuang
pagkatao ng isang indibidwal.

Ang aktibidad na isinagawa ng New Era University tungkol sa mental health awareness ay isang
napakahalagang aksyon upang maisakatuparan ang obhetibo sa kasalukuyang panahon na maipalaganap
ang kahalagahan ng pag-aalaga ng ating mental na pag-iisip. Nagsagawa ng iba’t ibang mga kubol na may
layuning magbigay impormasiyon, higit pa rito, nakapagbigay tuwa sa mga mag-aaral tulad namin.
Mayroon ding mga nilikhang mga obra, na lubos na nakapukaw ng aming atensiyon sapagkat bawat likha
ay may nais iparating tungkol sa sa temang mental health awareness. Mayroon ding mga spoken poetry na
nakakabilib, sapagkat isang malikhaing pagbibigkas at mahalagang mensaheng ipinapamulat ang hatid nito
sa mga manonood. Isang malikhaing paraan upang maiparating sa mga mag-aaral ang impormasiyon
tungkol sa mental health ang naisagawa.

Napakahalagang mabigyang atensiyon ang kalagayan ng ating pag-iisip. Sapagkat ang kapabayaan
nito ay magdudulot ng malubhang isyu sa pagkatao ng isang indibidwal, na sunod na makaka-apekto sa
aspetong pisikal at pakikipag-sosyal, sa madaling salita ang kapabayaan sa mental na pag-iisip ay
kapabayaan ng kabuuang sarili natin. Ang ating buong pagkatao ang dumidepina na ating buhay sa mundo,
kaya naman nararapat na ating kilalanin ang ating sarili, at tukuyin kung nararanasan na ba natin ang mga
bagay at problemang makakapagdulot sa atin ka-sira-an, higit sa aspetong mentalidad.
