3. INTRODUCTION :
CAD:
CAD is the use of computer technology for design and design
documentation. CAD/CAM applications are used to both design a
product and program manufacturing processes, specifically, CNC
machining.
CAM:
CAM software uses the models and assemblies created in CAD
software to generate tool paths that drive the machines that turn
the design into physical parts. CAD/CAM software is most often
used for machining of prototypes and finished parts.
CAE:
Software tools that have been developed to support these
activities are considered CAE tools. CAE tools are being
used, for example, to analyse the robustness and
performance of components and assemblies. The term
encompasses simulation, validation, and optimization of
product and manufacturing tools. In the future, CAE
systems will be major providers of help support design
teams in decision making.
