INSTRUCTIONS
LRL/PT/FIAG/B07/19 - MECHANICAL TESTING

You are required to follow the instructions laid down below in accordance to the PT plan.

1. You will receive one box containing ten packets of PT samples and an envelope
containing Instruction Sheet, Form-2 and Form-3.
2. Open the box as soon as you receive it, take out the sample packets safely from the box,
and examine the PT material and report the receiving vide FORM-2.
3. In case of damaged samples, send the photographs of sample along with Form-No.2 and
ask for other fresh samples.
4. Replicated samples will only be resend if found appropriate to PT coordinator on the
basis of assessment as per the information furnished vide form No.2.
5. All the samples are prepared separately, caution is required to keep the samples safely
and separately to avoid inter- mixing/adulteration. Emptying of the packets shall be done
properly so as to finer particles of sand should not be left stuck inside the packet.
6. Samples are labeled with unique identity to separate them for different tests. The detail of
test parameters, methods and sample ID to be used is elaborated in table below:

7. Carry out the test and email the scanned image of duly filled FORM-3 for reporting of
results latest by the 10th Feb 2020. The hard copy of same FORM-3 shall be reached to
the PT coordinator by the 17th Feb 2020
8. Results received after the last date of receipt will not be accepted and such
participants shall be treated as “Not Participated”.
9. Proper procedure as per relevant IS codes shall be followed unless otherwise instructed.
10. Sample packets marked as LRL/PT/FIAG/B07/19 – IV and LRL/PT/FIAG/B07/19 – VI
are pre-sieved and need not to be sieved further before the start of test.
11. For soundness test, Magnesium Sulphate heptahydrate of technical grade confirming to
IS :257-1950 shall to be used.
12. Report the results with desired accuracy of decimal places as indicated in Form-3.
13. Treat proficiency test items in the same manner as the majority of routinely tested
samples.
14. Use calibrated equipment as per Standard requirements.
15. Store left over quantity of samples safely till the completion of PT round.
16. All samples are 4.75mm sieve passed.
17. Do not use old & worn out sieves, only calibrated sieves as per Standard requirements
shall be used.
18. Distilled water shall be used in specific gravity & water absorption test.
19. Specific gravity shall be the Bulk Specific Gravity (Oven Dry Basis) as defined in IS:
1199-1959.
20. Please do attach a copy of your “NABL Scope in Fine Aggregate” with result sheet. If
not accredited with NABL, then submit measurement traceability document of
calibrated equipment in support of results obtained for the particular test parameters.
21. Form-2 and Form-3 are attached herewith.
