The Greater Northern Trainer And Assessor’s Network (or

GNTAN) is an outcome of a project funded by the Council
of Australian Governments (CoAG). The Tamworth
Community College was the organisation which project
managed the development and founded the network, with Pat Foley and Peter Johnston working
together to ensure a quality outcome for trainers and assessors across the region.

The network’s primary purpose is to provide professional development opportunities for VET trainers
and assessors. These opportunities include full or half day workshops, access to a secure website
and regular meetings at which trainers and assessors can meet to network and hear about changes in
the VET environment.

The membership has identified several hot issues for the network to become active on, including; how
members can maintain the currency of their competency as trainers and assessors, how to better
incorporate recognition into
assessment practices, and how
training and assessment resources
can be shared electronically
amongst network members.

The new trainer and assessor

network is operating as a sub-
committee of the Greater Northern
Skills Development Group. This
group has undertaken to ensure
the network continues to develop
and grow the services it provides
to VET professionals.
