Community Vision for the Future of
Southpoint Open Space
(from Community Plan for Southpoint Open Space)

The Community Plan for Southpoint Open Space park will

preserve and celebrate this dynamic, natural landscape and
spectacular scenic viewpoints, which both contrasts with and
defines this tranquil setting.

The Community Plan will cultivate an inviting and usable space

that takes into account the abilities, ages, and interests of
both current and new members of the community. A flexible
and adaptable design will include cultural features and
amenities that provide opportunities for gatherings, learning,
and exploration.

The Community Plan will respect and augment the space’s

context, history, and natural systems. Above all, Southpoint
Open Space will remain a natural, open space for the
Roosevelt Island community in its setting, use, and role.
