3. Lesson Proper
What have you observed from the words I observed that they are verbs.
you have acted out earlier?
Yes, they are verbs together with adverb
which is now our topic for today.
Do you have any idea what an adverb is? Ma’am, adverbs are words that modify a
Correct. The very word says “AD”, so we verb, an adjective, and another adverb.
put something to the verb and we have
known that verb is an action word.
When an adverb modifies verb it answers
the questions; how, when, and how.
Adverbs usually follows verbs and when (Students listen attentively)
we talk about where;
Ex: CCTV in Canada is everywhere.
It also answers the question how;
Ex: He closes the door quickly.
He spoke to me calmly.
It also answers the question when;
Ex: We went to church yesterday.

I have mentioned earlier that adverbs

usually follow verbs but sometimes it
comes before the verb and this happens in
an adverb of frequency, how often you do
something.
In connection to that, I’m going to teach
you the seven sisters of adverbs of
frequency.

Always
Usually
Often
Sometimes
Seldom
Rarely
Never No Ma’am. Seldom is more than rarely,
rarely is like once in a lifetime, while
Do you think seldom and rarely is the seldom is like more or five times.
same?

Just so you know, adverb usually ends

with LY.
Can you give me examples? Habitually, quickly, normally
Correct, but we have to be careful that not
all words ending with LY is adverb.
Is it clear? Yes Ma’am.

When adverb modifies adjective it gives

intensity to an adjective.
If you have a colored jacket and you’ll say
“Brightly colored jacket” by that, I get an
explosion of light in my mind, the way I see
it.
Another example from the class? The tea is very hot.
Correct. How hot is the tea? Very hot.

When adverb modifies adjectives it gives

us more experience and makes the
sentence interesting.

We also use adverb to modify another

adverb to give emphasis to an adverb.
Ex: James speaks too quickly.
In this example, we can just say “ James
speaks quickly”, but to give emphasis on
how quickly James speaks we use the
adverb “too”
Did you understand? Yes Ma’am.

4. Generalization
What have you learned from today’s I have learned that adverb is a word that
discussion? modifies verb, adjective, and another
adverb. When it modifies verb, it answers
the questions how, when, where. It brings
intensity when adverb modify adjective
while gives emphasis when modifying
another adverb.
Adverbs usually ends with “LY” but there
are words that ends with “LY” that are not
adverbs but adjective.
