LESSON # 4

MEASURE, SEAM, POINT ON, NOTCH

MEASURE
1. OPEN the file named BLOUSE.DSN
2. Select the piece Front to the working area.
3. Click on the MEASURE tool.
4. Click on first point in armhole (point #3)
5. Click on the last point in armhole(point #4)
Measure dialog box will display all measures.

6. Click the SEGMENT LENGTH EDIT button. A new dialog will be displayed.

7. Change the length to 8.25 inches by clicking once in the field.


8. Before clicking OK you must choose how the segment will be edited in the
EXTEND BY list. For this example choose CURVE.
9. Click OK and the segment will grow or shrink to the length you typed in.
By choosing curve the segment will grow proportionally.

SEAM
1. Open the file BLOUSE.DSN
2. SAVE the file with new name BLOUSE4.DSN
3. Click on the first piece in the menu.
4. Click on the SEAM tool.
5. Click on the first point to add seam allowance.
6. Move the mouse to the last point and Click.
Remember to go clockwise
7. Enter the amount of Seam in the Seam Width field. For this lesson add ½
inch seam around the entire piece.
Tip: Click on any point for the start seam and then click again on the same
point for the end seam. This will add equal seam all around the piece.
8. Do the same for each piece in the style.
9. SAVE the file.

10. Clear the working area of all pieces except the Sleeve.
11. Change the SEAM amount at the sleeve hem from ½ inch to 1 inch.
12. Use the SEAM tool and click from point #1 to point #2. Enter 1 inch and
click OK.
13. Right mouse click on the working area and choose SELECT TOOL to exit
the SEAM tool.

14. Double click on point #1 and change the seam corner type to a turnback
corner.
15. Do the same for point #2.

16. Save the file.

NOTCH
1. Keep the Sleeve on the working area and Click on the NOTCH tool.
2. Click on point 1 and add a T notch.
3. Click on point 2 and add a T notch.
4. Click the REPLACE OLD tool to keep the changes.

WHEN ADDING NOTCHES TO CORNERS THE ANGLE MUST BE EITHER 90 OR


–90 DEGREES FROM THE RELATIVE POINT. THIS WILL CONTROL THE
POSITION OF THE NOTCH ON THE CUT LINE.

THIS IS THE RESULT WHEN NO ANGLE HAS BEEN DEFINED.


USE THE RECONNECT BUTTON AND CHANGE THE ANGLE TO –90 DEGREES TO
MAKE THE NOTCH FIXED TO THE POINT ON CUT LINE.

THIS WILL KEEP THE NOTCH AT THE CORRECT POSITION IF THE POINT IS
MOVED.

POINT ON
1. Make a new file. Click on the NEW icon and then make a rectangle 10 inches by
5 inches.
2. Click on the piece to bring it to the working area.
3. Click the POINT ON tool and Click on the segment between point #1 and point
#2. A dialog box will appear.
ALL POINTS DISTANCES ARE RELATIVE TO THE PREVIOUS AND NEXT
GRADE POINTS (CLOCKWISE).
4. Choose CURVE for the point type and then specify the distance in the
proportional field with a value of .5
A .5 VALUE WILL PLACE THE POINT 50% IN BETWEEN EACH GRADE POINT.
NOTICE THAT THE VALUES ARE EQUAL IN THE PREVIOUS AND NEXT
FIELDS
