Reflection
We chose polynomials as a topic because it is one of the most important topics that students
learn during high school years. Moreover, this topic is appropriate to teach the lesson with
technology usage. Teachers can benefit from many visuals, videos, and presentations that can
be prepared by using technology, and also online textbooks to teach the concept of
polynomials. Furthermore, while we are preparing the lesson and unit plans, we spent most of
our time thinking about "State Standards and Objectives" which is one of the steps of Assure
because we had to choose the most appropriate objectives for this topic. By choosing the most
appropriate objectives for the topic, students can learn more effectively, and they can
understand better the topic that teachers teach them. Also, we determined prerequisite skills
according to the topics that students have learned before. This background knowledge helps
students to learn the concept of polynomials, and they use this background knowledge while
they are learning polynomials. Therefore, they need to know some topics to better understand
polynomials. Moreover, while we are writing objectives, we paid attention that the audience
(students), the behaviors to be demonstrated, the conditions under which the behavior will be
observed, and the degree to which the learned skills are to be mastered. We benefited from the
“MEB Curriculum” to determine the background knowledge and objectives. Furthermore, we
determined instructional methods, media, and materials according to their benefits for
students. Students can learn easily by choosing appropriate methods, media and materials to
teach the lesson. We used direct instructional strategies, questioning strategies, and
cooperative learning techniques as instructional methods. By using these methods, students
can learn better, and they can play an active role during the lesson. The questions that teachers
ask their students is important for understanding student’s thinking and understanding level.
In cooperative learning, students can work together, hence they can enhance their interaction
skills. Also, we used videos about the concept of polynomials, and we benefited from some
visuals like infographics, concept maps, and we prepare some presentations about the topic to
teach the lesson. When we are preparing visuals, videos, presentations we used some
applications. We used these visuals, videos, and presentations for introducing the topic, giving
an example of the topic, and summarizing the lesson. Students can be attracted to the lesson
with the presentations, infographics, and videos, and they can more participate in the lesson.
Moreover, we developed some techniques to assess student's learning and understanding.
Students will write a journal about the lesson content, and we prepared a quiz for them in a
technological environment. Also, we can assess their participation in the lesson. By using
these assessment techniques, we can evaluate students more effectively and appropriately.
