A Glimpse To Foundation of Technology Education
Education is a lifelong experience. Its main concern is their student’s welfare. As the
Department’s Mission states that students learn in a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, safe, and
motivating environment. Through the years, teachers facilitate learning and constantly in order
to nurture every learner. Furthermore, administrators and staff, as stewards of the institution,
ensure an enabling and supportive environment for effective learning to happen. Other linkages
such as family, community, and other stakeholders actively engaged and share responsibility
for developing life-long learners.
Philippine Education system organizational structure from time to time embraces change.
Change for the betterment of quality of graduates. Recently the Department of Education
implements K to 12 Curriculum. In this curriculum, preschool (Kindergarten) is now
mandatory and additional two years in the high school. These additional years opens the Senior
High School program, thus making the existing high school as Junior High School. In Senior
High School, students are now equip with the TVL programs under the supervision on both the
Department of Education and Technology Education (DepEd) and Technology Education and
Skills Development Association (TESDA). There are various strands in TVL Track. In our
school, we are currently offering: Caregiving, Computer System Servicing (CSS), and Organic
Agriculture strands. Caregiving strand’s objectives is to equip students with the National
Certificate in Caregiving NCII. CSS strand strives to capacitate students before graduation
(CSS NCII). Also, Organic Agriculture strand offers the same certificate opportunity to its
graduates. Furthermore, the national government doesn’t only pour its service to regular youths
but also to the Non-formal, Special Education, Alternative Learning System. In Non-formal
education our school offer DORP program wherein students enrolled in this program no longer
obliged to go to school daily. Under this program youth in conflict with the law, and teenage
mom or pregnant teens only have to pass the exams through modular learning acquisition.
Likewise, in our neighbor school, Mawab Central Elementary School SPED Center offers the
next government reaching out program which are Special Education in Alternative Learning
System. As a matter of fact, before I was hired as Junior High School Teacher I of Lorenzo S.
Sarmiento Sr. National High School, I was employed as Alternative Learning System (ALS)
teacher. In the Alternative Learning System, various forms of youth in all walks of life grabs
the opportunity given by the government. On the other hand, Special Education accepts
students with special needs. By accepting them the school is entitled to educate them with the
four Macro skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing according to the students’ way of
acquiring knowledge. SPED or Special Education Program accepts youth with impaired
hearing, deaf mute, blind and slow learner.
Until today the education system still upholds its legal bases. In the current education
system, the institution primarily stress-free education for all as mandated in the 1935, 1986 and
1987 constitution. For this reason, on its recent curriculum K to 12, the government offers
Student Voucher Program for all Junior High School graduates who wish to continue their
Senior High School education in private schools. This voucher program offers junior high
school graduates 17,500 pesos for rural areas government subsidy in order for them to grab
opportunity in the private schools without the burden of paying their school fees. Related to
the constitutional mandates also in order to address and help private schools’ burden of loosing
teachers due to highly salary rate between private and public school employees, the government
gives also Teachers’ Salary Subsidy exclusively for License Professional Teachers only.
I firmly believe that as MTE graduate, as I work along with the government through
the Department of Education, I have come to the conclusion that Technology Education plays
a vital role in upholding the Mission, Vision, Objectives, Mandates and Goals of the
Department of Education. Technology Education opens more opportunities to discover
students’ potentials in terms of technological advancement. The Department through K to 12
program have provided free education and high budgetary allotment to upgrade equipment.
This equips the school with computers, laptops, routers, modems, and patch panel. Also, I
notice that from time to time, teachers are being send to various trainings and seminars.
Because of these equipment and teachers’ capability training, consistent from the time of its
implementation, up to the present time our school and the rest of schools in our division have
created National Certificate passers and quality graduates.
