A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 8

I. Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

a. Read closely to select appropriate details from the story;


b. Identify the elements and features of the story;
c. Determine the meaning of some words in the story;
d. Accomplish a story map; and
e. Appreciate beauty of life and friendship.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: OUTWITTING A CROCODILE


(Kisah Sang Kancil dengan Buaya)
A Traditional Malaysian Folktale
References: Teachers Module (DepEd)
Outwitting a Crocodile Retold by Chook Yoon Foo
Materials: Video clip of Lolong, and a Deer, TV, copy of the story, paper cut -outs.
Values: Appreciate beauty of life and friendship, value creative ideas and original work, value of reading
books.
Skills: analyze word as means of unlocking the meaning of the words, using one’s creativity and
imagination in formulating the setting, characters, and scenes of their own short story.

III. Procedure:

A. Review :

- Class, yesterday we had discussed the elements of a Ma’am setting, character, plot, conflict, and
story. What are the elements of a story again? theme.

Mnemonics (Acrostic)

Using an Acrostic, the students are expected to


memorize the elements of Creative Writing (Story) in
a fast and accurate manner.

- Peter - PLOT
- Trick - THEME

Enrichment activity: (role play)

Group Work: Divide the class into three groups and


ask them to act out selected scenes from the story.

-scene 1: Sang Kancil (Mouse deer) is running,


jumping and looking into the river while Sang Buaya
(Crocodile) is waiting for him to cross along the river.

-scene 2: All the crocodiles line up across the river.


Sang Kancil (Mouse deer) walks across their heads
and counts all of them.

-scene 3: Sang Kancil (Mouse deer) jumps happily


and annoys the crocodiles for he outwits them. Sang
Buaya (Crocodile) gets angry!

IV. Evaluation:
1. Enumerate the elements of a story.
2. Based from the story, identify and examine the elements of the story using a Story Map.
V. Application (Homework):
Topic: good or bad experience with a person.
Applying the elements of a short story, draft your own story about your good or bad experience.
