The document summarizes a network health checklist conducted at the National Metrology Institute of Ethiopia. It details the network installation done by Vibe Computer Engineering PLC, including laying 860 meters of trunking, installing 16 patch panels, and pulling 13,725 meters of UTP cabling. It also describes the server farm setup with Windows Server 2008 and configurations like DHCP, DNS, and Active Directory. Various tests were conducted during installation to ensure standards compliance and connectivity of the network. However, some issues were noted like weak network availability limiting internet access, an out-of-date server, and potential security risks if the network was more widely available.

ABRIHAM YALEW IT/0012/09 We have written this document based on the report we got from national metrology institute located at wossen grocery and Meganagna Branch in Addis Ababa, in this institute the network service is weird in 2005 E.C. the network installation for the institute is given by a company called vibe computer engineering PLC. After the company did their job, they gave a full document about the network installation to the institute. So, we get the chance to see the full report that is documented in the institute. Network address and Names Network address and names are assigned in a structured manner and well documented too, according to the agreement the rack was delivered by national metrology institute of Ethiopia and also the patching panel were delivered and were installed and punching and terminating the patching panel is done. The labeling of each node is done after the termination of the nodes as requested. 1/one/ 42U rack and 5/five/ 9U racks were mounted. 16 patch panel have been used in the network installation. During the testing labeling nodes was done side by side by conforming the data transferring is a pass. Structure labeled of network Wiring Trunking By using the provided brand trunking PVC the installation has begun at the beginning of the project and according to the bid document the initial trucking was 700 meters on the task accomplishment it was necessary to use additional 260 meters of trucking for the network project. All trunking were 200*40mm ISO 9001 certifies white color PVC trucking in total 860 Meters. Cabling By using UTP Cable CAT6 Full Copper which supports Network supported: 10/100 Ethernet, 155 mbps ATM, 1000 Mbps with brand D-Link cable. During the installation of the network infrastructure at National metrology institute of Ethiopia 42 Rolls/12,810 meters of UTP/unshielded twisted pair/ cables were expected to be enough for the overall network installation due to the changing of office location and path change it was mandatory to use additional 3 rolls/915 meters were pulled through trucking, in total 45 rolls/ 13,725 meters of UTP cable wiring has been done(for National Metrology Institute of Ethiopia Wossen Branch). Server farm setup and configuration While the configuration on switches and wi-fi routers vibe computer engineering PLC Microsoft certified engineers were setting up, installing and configuring the server farm. Engineers have done installation of operating system licensed version of windows server 2008 on the provided Dell 720 server as per request of the IT directorate; the initial plan was to install Windows server 2012 R2. The configuration done are Configuration of DHCP and DNS (domain Name System) and Ads (Active directory). Configuration is done on CISCO 1900 series Router, the configuration networking are: NAT configuration, Tunneling, P2P Tunneling are done. Testing phase During every stage of finalizing the department cabling works, cable tests have been undertaken to assure that the cabling adheres to the intended standards. Results of the tests of cable plants were compiled and reported. Connectivity tests were also be made to assure that each network is linked to each other. After the VPN is introduced by Ethio-telcom the final test will be checking connectivity and this part will witness the overall system integration. The network wiring between the telecommunication closet and end station is no more than 100 meters, the compound of the institute is so big that the Ethio-Telecom planted the Closet in the institute. The customers of the institute is a government, The employees uses the network to uses a system Called IBEX, to use IBEX they don’t need a fast internet so to do the work that they are hired to do, it meets the government’s goal but Employees couldn’t access other internet services because network availability is so weak, IBEX needed high security so the vibe computer engineering company applies a good security system for the network, No collision on ethernet full-duplex links The ethernet network uses two lines for sending and receiving data simultaneously. It is used in point-to-point connections between stations and requires that lines be concentrating using Ethernet Switches instead of hubs or repeaters. Traffic Broadcast traffic is less than 20 percent of all traffic on each network segment. Frame size frame sizes have been optimized to be as large as possible for the data link layer in use. Router utilization no routers are over used, the CPU utilization is 60% after a use of 10 min. routers are not dropping more than 1 percent of packets. Up-to-date Devices The server that they are using is out of date but still working but the rest devices like the router, switches and hub. Response time The response time between client and host is less than 100ms because the host server is found in the institute.
