Climate Change Advocacy
Climate change is not just something that can resolve easily. I picked a global issue for my
topic as it also correlates on a social issue that our country has facing for a long time.
The effects of climate change are not simply environmental but economic and social as well,
new and existing policies must take a holistic approach and transcend disciplines, sectors, and
the public-private divide. Addressing climate change is a tremendous concern unlike any our
society has had yet to deal with and requires a unique approach that leaves behind the idea
that humans are a separate entity outside of the environment.
. Isn’t it we need to wake up and start to plan and execute actions for changes?
Climate Change is what we are already experiencing. First and foremost, I am not saying this not to
inform people should be aware that climate change is happening. We already know, and we should
also be concern.
Geographically, our country, Philippines is located along the Western Pacific Region, it is also in a
weather pathway near the equator known as the “Typhoon Belt” which is prone to typhoons and
tropical cyclones. This makes the Philippines one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world.
The Philippines is a country most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. With rising
temperatures and sea levels, increased intensity and frequency of environmental hazards like
drought, typhoon and flooding, climate-smart measures deserve our attention.
The country dealt with heavy monsoon rains enhanced by successive weather disturbances in the
Pacific.
Climate change is not a typhoon that visits your country once or twice a year. Climate change is a
day-to-day problem,”
The report puts a spotlight on 4 sectors that are the biggest contributors of greenhouse gas
emissions: energy, industrial processes, agriculture, and waste generation.
Climate change is the biggest environmental challenge of our time and it is already
affecting our climate, agriculture, native ecosystems, and health.
. The effects of climate change will be economic, social, and environmental and will alter people’s
lives in a myriad of ways that we are just beginning to understand. (Byrd & DeMates, 2014) one of
the reasons why it is considered to be a social issue is its unequal capacity for adaptation
We are facing this serious global issue as our consequences due to human activities that damaged
our environment. We are involved and we must be concern.
“Therefore, if we are to genuinely secure the welfare of our peoples in the region, a
comprehensive and networked approach to delivering healthcare — employing the latest tools,
innovations, techniques and solutions — must be adopted. We must harmonize our policies
and strategies so we can build responsive, effective and resilient health systems that will not
only withstand disaster but also assist our neighbors in times of need.” (Duterte, 2018)
This matter requires first and foremost localized solution
Lobbying governments and discussing policies to reduce carbon emissions and encouraging
reforestation is an effective way of making progress with climate change.
Educating citizen about the practical clean energy solutions available through this way we can begin
to address the harmful effects of climate change in our country.
