1 Performance degradation or maintenance operation failure
Phenomena The following phenomena may occur when CHK1B occurs frequently
after Shadow Image/CoW pair is created, or Volume Migration occurs.
- Host I/O performance for LDEV for which MPB, where CHK1B
occurs frequently, has ownership is significantly degraded, and the
system goes down in the worst case.
- MPB replacement fails.
- Asynchronous processing for LDEV for which MPB, where CHK1B
occurs frequently, has ownership does not progress. Shadow Image,
CoW, and Volume Migration: While the processing is in progress,
CHK1B occurs, and the processing is interrupted. Initial copy of
TC/UR etc., asynchronous processing, such as LDEV format: Due to
CHK1B, the processing does not progress much.
Severity (High, Medium, Low) High
Conditions of Occurrence The failure occurs when all the following conditions A to D are met.
A. Microcode version is 70-03-32-00/00 or later
B. Shadow Image pair creation or Volume migration operation of
Volume Migration or
Copy-on-Write Snapshot pair creation
C. Different MPBs have LDEV ownership of P-VOL and S-VOL in B
D. The QAM control is running on P-VOL in B
Affected Products/Version DKCMAIN: 70-03-32-00/00 and higher

2 Data inconsistency, CHK2 failure, TC/UR pair suspension
Phenomena When a True Copy (TC) pair is used with the TC Round Trip
Reduction function, the following phenomena may occur in the RCU
side.

2) CHK2 failure (LA error) occurs on device with host I/O running
3) When a host I/O is running on the TC P-VOL, the pair is suspended
4) When a host I/O is running on the Universal Replicator(UR) P-
VOL, the pair is suspended
5) An I/O error occurs (Check Condition is reported to the host) on the
device on which a host I/O is running
6) Time-out of a remote copy I/O (RIO) issued from the TC Initiator
occurs, and/or Time-out of a host I/O occurs.

C. TC environment (OPEN or Mainframe)
D. In the configuration described in C., the TC Round Trip Reduction
function is enabled (HMO51=ON) in the TC RCU side
E. Open host is connected to the storage system in D.

with the TC Round Trip Reduction function and the LDEV ownership

function is enabled (HMO51=ON) in the TC RCU side
E. TC RCU-Target with HMO51=OFF is included in the storage
system described in D
F. The same MPB has the LDEV ownership of TC S-VOL with the TC
Round Trip Reduction function and the LDEV ownership of TC S-
VOL with HMO51=OFF

3 Failures of operation at UR I site in cascade configuration
Phenomena At UR intermediate site in cascade configuration with 3 UR sites, the
following phenomena (1) to (6) might occur.

(1) LDEV maintenance with a journal VOL specified (removal

(including PDEV removal)/blockage/recovery/format (including quick
format)) was not guarded but was wrongly executed, resulting in
failure suspend.
(2) LU path setting with a journal VOL specified was not guarded but
LU path could be defined, resulting in failure suspend.
(3) Command device registration with a journal VOL specified was not
guarded but the command device could be registered, resulting in
failure suspend.
(4) LUSE VOL registration with a journal VOL specified was not
guarded but the LUSE VOL could be registered, resulting in failure
suspend.
(5) System tuning (such as Serial Number, DKC Emulation, SSID) was
not guarded, but was enabled, resulting in failure suspend.
(6) Due to an invalid check at resource check when a pair operation per
mirror was performed for a journal group from Storage Navigator, a
UR pair operation was disabled.
