Ear Notching Lab Activity Name______________________

 Your swine operation has EIGHT sows and is mainly a show pig operation. You
farrow piglets in hope to sell them to local 4-H or FFA members to show in the summer
time. The sows breeds and names are listed below.

2 - Yorkshire sows (#1 Y, #2 Y)


3 - Landrace sows (#1 L, #2 L, #3 L)
2 - Duroc sows (#1 D, #2 D)
1 - Hampshire sows (#1 H)

 You have planned to have all EIGHT of these litters born in the month of January.
Here is how they farrowed…..

 The #1 Duroc sow had a litter of 11 piglets on the morning of January 3, 2009.

 The #1 Landrace sow had a litter of 15 piglets on the night of January 3, 2009.

 The #1 Hampshire sow had a litter of 8 piglets on January 10, 2009.

 The #1 Yorkshire sow had a litter of 11 piglets on January 11, 2009.

 The #2 Landrace sow had a litter of 14 piglets on January 12, 2009.

 The #2 Duroc sow had a litter of 13 piglets on January 13, 2009.

 The #3 Landrace sow had a litter of 16 piglets on the night of January 13, 2009.
