12th row: Knit 3, *Inc 1 stitch in next stitch (increase by knitting in the front
& back of stitch), Knit 2*. Repeat from *to last 2 stitches, Knit 2.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: Knit 29, Increase 1 stitch in each of the next 2 stitches. Knit 22.
3rd row: Knit 30, increase 1 stitch in each of the next 2 stitches. Knit 24,
5th row: Knit 31, increase 1 stitch in each of the next 2 stitches, Knit 26, in
7th row: Knit 32; increase 1 in the next 2 stitches, Knit 28 increase 1 in the
9th row: Knit 33, increase 1 in the next 2 stitches, knit 30, increase 1 in the
11th row: Knit 34, increase 1 in the next 2 stitches, knit 32, increase 1 in the
13th row: Knit 35, increase 1 in the next 2 stitches, knit 34, increase 1 in the
15th row: Knit 36, increase 1 in the next 2 stitches, knit 36, increase 1 in the
17th row: Knit 37, increase 1 in the next 2 stitches, knit 38, increase 1 in the
19th row: knit 38, increase 1 in the next 2 stitches, knit 40, increase 1 in the
22nd row: Cast off 52 stitches purl-wise, purl to the end of row.
Working on the remaining 21 stitches, continue in stockinette stitch,
decreasing 1 stitch on each end of the needle beginning with your 7 th row,
then every 6th row following, until there are 11 stitches on your needle.
Work 5 rows even in stockinette stitch, ending with a purl row. End yarn.
To shape neckband: on the right side of your work, join yarn and pick up and
knit 22 stitches along the lower edge of bonnet. Knit 11 stitches from back
of bonnet, pick up and knit 22 stitches along remaining part of lower edge.
Cast on 18 stitches for chin- strap (73 stitches on needle). Knit 2 rows.
Next Row: Knit 3, YO(yarn over), Knit 2 together, knit to end of row. Knit 2
rows. Cast off loosely. Sew back seams, add button for buttonhole.
