The document discusses several design constraints that must be considered for a traffic system project at an intersection in the Philippines. It outlines 7 constraints: 1) economic, with a budget of 30 million PHP; 2) sustainability, to last 50 years; 3) functionality, with a maximum speed of 24 and delay of 20% or less; 4) safety, following DPW standards to be 90% safe; 5) social, focusing on public response; 6) extensibility, considering social and physical impacts; and 7) several potential pavement types are mentioned, including interlocking concrete blocks, rigid pavements for heavy traffic, and asphalt which is recyclable and allows for easy repair.

Design constraints help narrow choices.
There will be limitations, restriction, and obstacle to the
development of the project. Each constraint must be individually evaluated to determine the practicality and effectivity of attempting to design a traffic system in the intersection of Mindanao Avenue and Congressional Avenue. To achieve the optimum design, the constraints to be considered are discussed below. Economic Constraint relates to the budget of the project and how it allocated the resources. If the budget is insufficient or allocated improperly and inappropriately, then it can harm the progress of the project in terms of safety, quality, performance, and functionality. Limitation: This constraint will only cover the material cost and human resources used. The limiting value for this constraint is amounting to Php 30,000,000 as per the clients request. Sustainability constraint refers to how long the design can accommodate the growing no. of vehicles passing through that intersection. The design must be able to withstand the increasing volume of vehicles with a time frame of not just from this present but also considering the future. Limitation: This constraint will only focus on the volume of the vehicles the design can withstand. The client wants the design to last at least 50 years. Functionality Constraint refers to the kind of function the design project needs and if the flow of planning was followed accordingly, to make it easier for the researchers to visualize the possible outcome of the project. Limitation: This constraint will only focus on the project effectivity and response. The client specified to design 24 the maximum speed the intersection can withstand and to have an at least 20% delay or less. Safety Constraint will determine the safety of commuters, as the intersection is known as congested part, accidents occurs and emergency delays. Limitation: This constraint will follow the standards of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).To prevent risk, the client wants the design to be at least 90% safe. Social Constraints This constraint would focus on the outcome if the design implemented. To determine if the commuters response takes it positively or negatively since they are the main subject for this design project and then the observation follows. Limitation: This constraint will focus on the response and impact of the project to the society Extensibility Constraints is the addition or modification of existing functionality, it provides enhancement without impairing existing system functions. It will become a constraint if the modification impaired or affect the existing design in physical and social aspect Limitation: This constraint will focus on social and physical response. Interlocking Concrete Block Pavement (ICBP) has been widely used in developing countries. It provides a solution to the problem where conventional construction cannot be done in selected areas. Interlocking concrete paver blocks are easy to install and remove. It does not easily crack against stresses. Rigid Pavements has high flexural strength, so the deflection is minimal; this makes it capable of distributing the loadings efficiently in a large area. The structural strength of rigid pavements come from its beam-like behavior. Concrete Pavements are ideal for road sections that experience heavy traffic daily. Using this type of pavement can save money due to its minimal maintenance cost compared to its counterparts The asphalt pavement is widely used for road construction. It mainly contains asphalt and bituminous rocks, which are used as binders and some other mineral aggregates. Easy to repair and offers higher traffic speed. Asphalt is almost a hundred percent Recyclable.
