Consistency Control After The Machine Chest On A Four-Layer Board Machine
Resulting in:
Improved operating conditions
More stable basis weight
Problem
A mill producing packaging board from recycled fiber (OCC and ONP) is using consistency measurement to stabilize the basis weight. In the
four-layer board the bulk layer with the highest basis weight is the most important for the stability of the total basis weight. Without accurate
consistency measurement there’s no consistency compensation on this layer and there will be basis weight variations on the final product.
The mixture of raw materials makes consistency measurement in this position a complicated task.
Installation
An ACT-2500, AmpliForceTM was installed after the machine chest on the bulk layer. The consistency in this position is in the range 2.8-3 %.
Control strategy
The accurate consistency measurement of the ACT-2500 is used to control the flow of thick stock. This feed-forward control stabilizes the
consistency in the short circulation.
The ACT-2500, AmpliForceTM measures the consistency after the machine chest accurately.
Benefits
More stable operating conditions on the board machine.
Less variation in basis weight of the board produced on the machine.
Future installations of ACT-2500 after the machine chest on the remaining three layers will improve this situation even further.
