“Everything is always created twice, first in the mind and then in reality.”

The knowledge of a student

gained from the college professors are
not enough when only learned by pure
imagination. That is why an internship or the so-called work immersion is created. This
serves as a way that gives students a chance to apply the lessons learned from the school.
It also aids the students to achieve relevant knowledge and skills through the actual
experience in working in the field of their profession. Thus, the workplace and the field
serve as anew venue of learning for the student.
Work immersion is valuable where realism is essential. Students are required to
complete such hours of training. It is a particularly good way of developing technical
skills and expertise. During work immersion, a supervisor guides the trainee through
tasks and processes for them to know how to perform the obligation and to what standard.
Typically, the supervisor observes the trainees while they perform their duties. After
observation, the observer provides the trainees with feedback on their performance.

For a company or an organization who willingly accept a student trainee, work

immersion provides them additional manpower without expecting salary to pay back.
Student trainees can bring fresh ideas, and if even given such opportunity to speak their
minds freely, they maybe able to contribute significantly in brainstorming sessions that
will possibly help for the productivity of the company.

As for the Work Immersion program for HUMSS Student , the students would be
trained technically in their chosen field of interest. This provides opportunities to go
through the actual methodologies of a specific job using real tools, equipments and
documents. In effect, this will certainly lead them for their professional growth and
development.
Generally, while training the interns, supervisors are in fact also teaching the
process of guiding the trainees stretches their patience, develops engineering skills and
makes them more sensitive to the needs and mind set of the younger generation. The
course of supervision also teaches them how to share what they know and be receptive to
questions. Hence, the internship also becomes an avenue in training for future employees
and managers

One of the goals of the K to 12 Basic Education Program is to develop in learners the
competencies, work, ethic, and values relevant to pursuing further education and/or
joining the world of work. To achieve greater congruence between basic education and
the nation's development targets, work immersion, a required subject, has been
incorporated into the curriculum. This subject will provide learners with opportunities.

 To become familiar with the work place.

 For employment simulation; and
 To apply their competencies in areas of specialization/applied subjects in
authentic work environments.

To achieve the above Work Immersion is thus a requirement for graduation from
secondary education. Learners are immersed in actual work environments such as
workshops offices and laboratories in which their prior training is relevant. Work
immersion will help develop among the learner’s life and career skills, and will prepare
them to make decisions on postsecondary education or employment.
Through partnership building, DepEd hopes that the Partner Institutions will
provide learners with work immersion opportunities, workplace or hands-on experience,
and additional learning resources. It aims to make the learners:
 Appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories learned in
school;
 Enhance their technical knowledge and skills;
 Enrich their skills in communications and human relations; and
 Develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation and respect for work.
By the time learners reach Senior High School, they would have already acquired
almost all the competencies and skills that would prepare them for the curriculum exits
(higher education, employment, middle-skills development, and entrepreneurship). Work
immersion provides them with an avenue to test themselves and apply what they have
learned in a non-school scenario. In work immersion, learners are not only able to apply
their previous training but are also able to experience the social interactions in a work
environment. Their experiences during work immersion will develop many skills and
values that would help them as they transition from high school to real life.
To assure the achievement of the above objectives of Work Immersion, this policy serves
to guide schools in:

 Creating Flexible Work Immersion arrangement for their learners

 Providing options for work immersion that are relevant to learner's purpose and
need
 Organizing work immersion opportunities for learners that are consistent with the
diverse human resource requirements of partner institutions for work immersion,
and for Articulating the scope and limits of work immersion in the context of basic
education when building relationship with work immersion partners.

__________________________________________
The Values formation of a student must be formed and honed inside their home and
school. Proper discipline and moral guidance must be assessed before allowing the
student to go on the field. Students must undergo work immersion ethics seminar to
further engage themselves on the new face of work to experience.

1. OVERALL PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
To supplement the formal curriculum of the SHS program with the special
inputs coming from the Company experts and practitioners in order to make the
SHS aligned and consistent with work standards. To develop in the students of the
SHS program the knowledge and skills are relevant to the needs of the job market
in the area; To provide SHS students relevant learning experience by giving them
exposure to the actual work place setting; To form Work Immersion Partnership
between School and the Company, the students, faculty, and the staff of the
schools concerned will be allowed the use of and access to the Company work
place and equipment as part of their Work Immersion Program.

2. EXPLAIN WHY IMMERSION IS NECESSARY.

Work immersion is a key feature in the Senior High School curriculum
(SHS) and refers to the part of that consists of 80 hours of hands-on experience or
work simulation which Grades 11 and 12 students will undergo to expose them to
the actual workplace setting and to enrich the competencies provided by the school
under the supervision of the School Head and the designated personnel of the
Partner. Work immersion is the counterpart of the internship programs in the
tertiary level.
The said learning experience that the students can get from it which can
range from 80 to 320 hours will surely enable and help students as they familiarize
themselves with the workplace thus experience workplace simulation and apply
their competencies in areas of specialization. The completion of work immersion
is a prerequisite to graduation under the K-12 program. This is a first rate on the
part of DepEd, since young people like to explore and to connect with the people,
this work immersion will provide them to acquire relevant skills by performing in
actual work setting.
The importance of work immersion must be seen as vital point of giving
students a venue to improve themselves through experiencing real stuff firsthand.
This is the very highlight of the Senior High School program. It helps students to
acquire knowledge and experience that can help them grow as professional
individuals.
Furthermore, this program provides opportunities to go through the actual
methodologies of a specific job using the real tools, equipment and documents. In
effect, the work place becomes a development venue for us student trainee to learn
more about their chosen field and practice what we have learn from academy.

3. DESCRIBE WHAT SPECIFIC SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE THE

TRAINEE WILL ACQUIRE DURING THE WORK IMMERSION AND
HOW WILL THEY BE TAUGHT.
Trainee’s communication skills, it is essential for a social sciences student
to be good in communication skills. As what I experienced, they discussed all the
documents, I have to be accomplished, so as a trainee, if I don’t easily understand
what I should be done to passed, I should have the communication skills, to asked
what specific tasked, should I do. Trainee’s time management skills, time is very
precious just like in the company that I’ve been assigned, so I must manage all the
time have given to me in order to fulfill all my tasked.
Trainee’s computer skills, as what I experienced, I always encode all the
documents that my supervisor have given by me, by that I should have the ability
to encode fast all the documents given by me. Trainee’s socialization skills, there’s
so many people that I’ve been encounter in the company. So as a trainee, I need to
know to to socialize with them.

4. INDICATE THE AREAS IN WHICH THE TRAINEE WILL RECEIVE

INSTRUCTION IN CONJUCTION WITH THE SPECIFIC TASK AND
RESPONSIBILITY TO BE ASSIGNED TO THE TRAINEE IN EACH
DEPARTMENT.
There were 11 students from Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS)
assigned to work at JR&R Distributors Inc. And the company disseminate the 11
students to the different Department. I was assigned to Information Technology
Department. And these are the task assigned to me during the 10 day work
immersion:

5. METHOD OF EVALUATION AND CERTIFICATION

After the immersion, the Evaluation Sheet prepared by SHS faculty was given
to the Admin of the company. And the Admin Officer, is the one who will do the
Certificate of Completion, and be later given to the trainee.

______________________________________________
In every aspect of life we can never run away from problems. We are actually
living on problems. But the problems we seldom experience can be controlled by our
actions and decisions on present and for the further. The problem I noticed was the
availability and assurance of the student to enter a company. The DepEd wasn't able to
establish and create more partnership with other company. The companies for the SHS
especially for the HUMSS Strand are limited. Everyone is agitated about the work
immersion, even the faculty of SHS.

Second the office and staff where the students were designated are not ready and
inform properly about the 80 Hours immersion. They are requesting more than that. Next
the accomodation of the company to their on the Job trainee was a cold as an ice and are
needed a on job trainee to help the staffs. The hardship of socializing with working
people that you think would not waste their time talking are assisting you.

Lastly the work itself despite the fact that you are attacking the day with
enthusiasm if no one will give you work you'll be sleeping or even allowing you do
things.

There are problems that are for behind our control. But the decision and proper
system can allow the student use their skills related to their strand. The students do not
have the capacity to decide where to work. But if the government has the concrete plans
ahead there will be widely spread about the Grade 12 work immersion.
