Instructional Objectives:
 Students will self-evaluate trouble areas in The Polar Express
 The ensemble will be able to play from measure 70 to the end of The Polar Express
 The ensemble will sound balanced with a nice blend
 Students will play with good tone quality and accurate pitch/rhythm

1. Focus on: balance, blend, shaping a phrase (4 bar phrases)
Learning Opportunities/Procedure:
 Beginning of Polar Express
 Remember dynamics and phrasing, moving lines
 Measure 144 (start at 138 to get into it)
1. Work out 16th notes in woodwinds
2. Always overlap

Assessment:
 The concert is just under two months away, so I need to assess exactly what fine details will need worked out in the next few
weeks. The run of the second half of the piece will be very telling for this, especially since this ensemble has not looked at this
piece with me in over a week.

Reflection:
 This rehearsal was very productive. Students were receptive to my instruction and we got through the target area with a lot of
success. However, through listening to a recording of rehearsal I realized there are many things, particularly regarding
intonation, that I need to address. We will definitely be doing this in our next rehearsal.
