ACT I – This is heading level 1

Checkpoints are heading level 2 – The style may be set to hidden later

SCENE NAMES ARE CALLED SLUGLINES – THEY'RE HEADING 3

Action appears like this.

Character names appear before dialog using the Character

style:

STEVE
Here is a line of dialogue
(a parenthetical comment describes how it
should be read)

I added these two non-standard styles for a musical:

Song Title

Song Lyrics need a wider line and are italic

Note that all bolding, italics and colors are non-

standard, but I find they make it a lot easier to work on
the script. You can always turn them off simply by
changing the style's format when you're finished.

The next page shows what a real script looks like:

EXT. APARTMENT - DAY

We see Clark is standing in front of an apartment

building, looking puzzled. The numbers 666 appear next to
the front doorway. Cleaver enters, reading a newspaper
and whistling.

CLARK
Excuse me, sir. Can you tell me where
I can find 1966 Elm street? It's an
apartment building.

Cleaver lowers his paper and looks at Clark like he's

insane. He looks at the building, then back at Clark.
Then, gesturing with the paper...

CLEAVER
You're standin' in front of it.

Clark looks at the building, then back at Cleaver.

CLARK
That's 666.

Cleaver looks back at the building as if for the first

time, then walks to the steps and rotates the first 6
until it's a 9. He raises his eyebrows at Clark.

CLARK
966?

CLEAVER
(after a pregnant pause)
We lost the 1.
(Clark opens his mouth but Cleaver cuts
him off)
Look, Bub, I oughta know. This is the
building where I live.
