    MULTI-PURPOSE DRAFTING TABLE


    MISSION STATEMENT

    DESIGN A SUSTAINABLE AND


    PORTABLE DRAFTING TABLE THAT
    FITS MOST OF THE NEEDS OF AN
    ART STUDENT ATTENDING
    PARSONS THE NEW SCHOOL FOR
    DESIGN.
    PROBLEM
    CURRENTLY, THE NEW SCHOOL IS FILLED WITH DRAFTING TABLE THAT
    HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR ART STUDENTS. THE DESIGN
    FLAWS ON THE TABLE HAS BEEN AFFECTING STUDENT’S WORKING
    ENVIRONMENT AND MANY OF THEM HAS BEEN COMPLAINING. THE
    SURFACE HAS BEEN CUT UP BY CRAFTING STUDENTS, THE WHEELS ARE
    REALLY UNSTABLE AND THE METAL SLAB THAT PREVENTS THE PAPER
    FROM FALLING CAUSES PAIN TO STUDENTS ARM WHEN THEY REST ON
    IT.
    FACTS
    • WOOD CAN BE MORE EASILY REUSED THAN METAL
    • BY USING THE MATERIAL WOOD, IT INCREASES THE PORTABILITY BECAUSE IT
    WOULD BE LIGHTER.
    • WOOD CAN BE EASILY FOUND IN A SCRAP PILE OF A CONSTRUCTION SITE
    OTHER EXISTING
    SOLUTIONS
    • USING A MIXED MEDIA OF WOOD AND METAL TO MAKE THE
    TABLE LIGHTER.
    • USING A ARCHED STAND SO THAT IT WOULD NOT INTERFERE AND
    HANG DOWN WHEN THE TABLE ISN’T TILTED.
    SOLUTION
    MY SOLUTION IS TO CREATE A LIGHT AND
    PORTABLE DRAFTING TABLE THAT CAN BE MULTI-
    PURPOSED SO FINE ARTS STUDENT WOULD NOT
    HAVE PROBLEM WITH DRAWING ON A TABLE
    EVEN IF IT WAS USED BY A CRAFTING STUDENT.

    I THINK THAT THIS SOLUTION WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM
    BEC AUSE IT SOLVES A LOT OF ARTIS TS MAJOR PROBLEMS
    WITH THE CURRENT TABLE WE HAVE. WITH THE DETAC HABLE
    LEG AND COLL APSABLE SURFACE, THIS TABLE WILL BE ABLE
    TO SAVE A LOT OF SPACE WHEN IT IS PUT INTO S TORAGE. AT
    THE SAME TIME, IT WILL BE A SUS TAINABLE DRAFTING TABLE
    BEC AUSE IT WOULD BE MADE OUT OF SCRAP WOOD.
    SUMMARY
    I AM GOING TO BE DESIGNING DRAFTING TABLE
    SPECIFICALLY FOR ART STUDENTS ATTENDING
    PARSONS SCHOOL OF DESIGN. AS THE WORLDS
    2ND RANKED DESIGN SCHOOL, WE DESERVE TO
    BE PROVIDED WITH THE BEST ENVIRONMENT AND
    TOOL TO DESIGN AND CREATE.
    THIS FUNCTIONAL YET SUSTAINABLE DRAFTING
    TABLE MADE OUT OF SCRAP WOOD WILL SERVE AS
    A DRAWING SURFACE, A CUTTING SURFACE, AND
    A WHITEBOARD OR BLACKBOARD SURFACE FOR
    STUDENTS WHO ARE IN NEED OF A PLACE TO
    WORK.
