    Chapter 1

    1.1 Introduction

    A Science Laboratory is a workplace for the conduct of scientific research. It helps students to
    remember the ideas better. It helps to transfer the experience to other learning situations. It is a facility
    that provides controlled conditions in which scientific research, experiments, and measurement may
    be performed.Science laboratory equipment allows students to interact directly with the data gathered.
    They get a first-hand learning experience by performing various experiments on their own. Students
    are made to use the models and understand different scientific theories and concepts. It is also found
    that school science lab equipment and supplies make teaching and learning easy both for the
    teachers, as well as for the students. And Pinchas Tamir has been seen that the laboratory is “a place
    where students are engaged in hands-on activities such as observations and experiments”
    commenting further, he stated that a laboratory must be used not only to verify but to find her
    investigation and inquiry.

    There’s a lot of problems in Science Laboratories when the school cannot provide the right
    apparatus to be used by the students. In this manner, the students will poorly understand the thing or
    lesson to be understood well because they did not perform it hands-on. Usually in our Generation now
    there are terms and lessons in science that needs to be manipulated and accompanied by the science
    laboratories.

    That's why with the problem that some other schools were heading they offered a well organized
    and complete in facilities in their science laboratories. It is to create knowledgeable results to the
    students learning and will help them be advance in science. But still, there are schools that are not yet
    renovated because of the financial and government support problems. And still going on the process.
    1.2 Statement of the Problem

    How renovated science laboratory improve to the science academic performance of the student in
    terms of the following:

     Problem Solving

     Critical Thinking

     Comprehension

    1.3 Significance of the study

    This study will provide a piece of very important information about the student's response
    regarding the renovation of the science laboratory to the students. But aside from that, this study can
    also be useful to the School, Other Researchers and to all Science Teachers.

    Students - will enable the students to see the need for developing his or her creative thinking and
    his or her manipulative skill or ability and will tend to know what it is exactly intended for in their
    studies.

    Other Researchers- It will be their basis in collecting other data with regards to science laboratories
    study. They will get some knowledge in this study.

    Science Teachers- this study is important for it will help them to see the need for having a well
    equipped and effectively used laboratory.

    School - which is Mercy Junior College it is useful to the school for it can be their basis of the
    students learning regarding their renovated science laboratory if it is enough or it is not enough.

    1.4 Scope and Limitation

    This study will be limited to the Contribution of the Renovated Science Laboratory to the Students
    Learning and Advancement in Mercy Junior College, Poblacion Tubod Lanao del Norte. The study will
    start from July until August.
    1.5 Operational Definition of Terms

    Science Laboratory - refers to the facility that provides controlled conditions in which scientific or
    technological research, experiments, and measurement maybe performed.

    Academic Performance - refers to the extent to which a student, teacher or institution has achived
    their short or long term educational goals.

    Renovated - to repair and improve building so that it is in good condition again.

    Learning - the acquisition of knowledge or skills through experience, study, or by being taught.

    Advancement - a forward step or an improvement in the science laboratory field.


    Chapter 3

    3.1 Research Designs

    This research is a social science. It is explanatory research that seeks an explanation on how
    can a renovated science laboratory in Mercy Junior College provides the learning and advancement of
    the students. This includes the way of gathering qualitative data. Qualitative data will be gathered from
    the respondents using questionnaires and which also helps identify and deal with the problem
    effectively and efficiently.

    3.2 Subject and Locale of the Study

    This research will be conducted at Mercy Junior College, Poblacion Tubod Lanao del Norte. The
    respondents for this research are from the Grade 11 and 12 STEM Students who have a major subject
    in science which are chemistry I and II and biology I and II in Grade 11 and in Physics I and II. The
    respondents are enrolled in this school year 2019-2020.

    3.3 Methods of Research

    This will consist of 3 phase

    Phase 1 will be the construction of questionnaires with regards to the study that can be very useful for
    this chosen study. Questionnaires are a research tool consisting of a series of questions for the goal of
    gathering data from a respondent.

    Phase 2 will be the distribution of the made questionnaires to the respondents which are the Grade 11
    and Grade 12 STEM students. As the questionnaires had been distributed it will be collected after they
    answered the said questions.

    Phase 3, the last phase, as the data were collected from the respondents it will need an analyzation. It
    is the Data analysis will be the inspecting, cleansing, molding and modeling data with the aim of
    discovering beneficial information, informing results and supporting decision-making.
    3.4 Data Gathering Procedure (Flow Chart)

    3.5 Instrument Used

    This study will be used by one of the classic social sciences research tools which are the
    questionnaires. Questionnaires are a research tool consisting of a series of questions for the goal of
    gathering data from a respondent. It provides a common, quick and efficient way of collecting
    substantial volumes of information from a large sample of people. It will also help to determine the
    response of the Grade 11 and 12 STEM students of Mercy Junior College regarding the contribution of
    the renovated science laboratory to the students learning and advancement in Mercy Junior College.
