LESSON PLAN FOR MATHEMATICS 10

Date: June 6, 2018 (Wednesday)

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Learning Competencies: The learner generates patterns. (M10AL-Ia-1)

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

Knowledge: Define sequence
Skill: Identify the next term of a sequence
Attitude: Value accumulated knowledge as means of new understanding.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Sequence
B. References: Mathematics Learner’s Module for Grade 10 Pages 9-10

C. Materials: Cartolina, Permanent Marker, Paper Envelops, Chalk and Chalkboard and projector.
D. Strategies/Methods Used: Inductive
E. Values Integration: Patience, Perseverance, Collaboration, and Accuracy

III. LEARNING STRATEGIES

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity Teacher’s Note

A. Pre-activity
1. Daily Routine
a. Greetings
a. Prayer
c. Attendance
b. Energizer
c. Review/Intoduction

To introduce the sequencing lesson and

gain students' attention, the teacher can
tell a silly "out-of order" story about his/her
day. For example : "This morning, I woke Ask some students
up and ate dinner. Then, I put my pajamas
on and went to school. Next , I brushed my
teeth played with my friends". This can
lead into a conversation about the
importance of putting events in order.
How about you?

B. Motivation
Group Activity: (Groups will depend on Introduce the concept
the sitting arrangement) of sequencing by
a. Read the focus story, "The telling a short story

story, bring out a large poster that already Man".
has the words first, second, next, then,
and last written on it. The words are
ordered like a train. There will be an arrow
starting at first and pointing to last. Use the
pre-made story/picture cards to sequence
the events in the story. To check for
understanding, you can intentionally place
some cards in the incorrect place to see if
students are following along. You can use
gestures and body language to help
convey the words. You can use slower
speech with physical cues and clear
articulation when approaching key topics.

Expected answers: Let the students

prepare a ¼ sheet of

Identify if each picture below shows a

pattern or not. If there is a pattern, put a
check mark (✓) and identify it, otherwise
put a cross mark (x).

By applying the previous learning, let the SEQUENCE
student guess the topics for the day.

D. Lesson Proper/Discussion

The set objects in the priming activity are

called sequences.

Were you able to find patterns and get the Let us now give the
next object in the sequence? formal definition of a
sequence.
What is a sequence?
A sequence is a function whose domain
is the set 1,2,3,…

Post the notes on the

screen.
This finite sequence has 5 terms. We
may use the notation a1, a2,…an to denote
a(1), a(2),a(3),…a(n), respectively.

In Grade 10, we often encounter

sequences that form a pattern such as that
found in the sequence below.

The above sequence is an infinite

sequence where an=3n+1

E. Activity Proper

the missing term to complete the
sequence.

1. Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Aug, ___, ____

2. 5, 8, 11, 14, ___, 20, ___...

Call students
3. 1/2, 1, 3/2, 2, 5/2, ___, 7/2, 4, ___,… to answer and
explain their
4. 3, -6, ___, -24, 48, ___ … work

5. 1, 4, 9, 16, ___, 36, 49, 64, ___

F. Analysis
Post- Activity Expected answers:

Guide Questions:
Call students
1. What pattern is shown in every item? - to answer
2. If the pattern continues in each of the
item, what will be the next item?

G. Abstraction

1. What is a sequence? A sequence is a function whose Post a visual aid on

domain is a finite set of positive the board.
integers {1, 2, 3, …, n} or an
infinite set {1, 2, 3, …}. It is a
string of objects, like numbers,
that follow a particular pattern.
(world.mathigon.org)

Each element or object in the

sequence is called term.

When the sequence goes on

forever it is called an infinite
sequence, otherwise it is a
finite sequence.

2. How do you find the next number in First, find the common
a sequence? difference for the sequence.
Subtract the first term from the
second term. Subtract the
second term from the third
term. To find the next value,
add to the last given number.

3. How can you apply sequence in Real life is simple. If you want a
daily life? cup of tea, you boil water and
pour it over tea leaves.

There are enough arithmetic

sequences involved in this
simple task to keep a
mathematician busy for quite
some time.

1- calculating the volume of

water required to generate a
"cup" of tea. Account for
evaporation at various
temperatures; and expressed
over time intervals.

2- calculate the energy required

to generate the heat required to
bring the temperature of the
water to boil. Account for
refracted energy.

3- account for heat dissipation

after pouring water into the cup

—- on and on. All energy

expenditure over time will give
a sequence.

H. Application
Students will answer the given problem Instruct students to
below. arrange their chairs
and form a circle.
Answer the following problems.
Answer:
1. The table below shows the cost of
renting the Cavite Hall at Island Cove 7400
Resort and Leisure Park in Kawit,
Cavite depending on the number of
attendees.
Number Rental
of Cost in
Persons Peso
20 6200
25 6500
30 6800
35 7100

Jose booked the hall for a birthday

party for 40 persons. How much will
he pay?

2. A rabbit population grew in the

following pattern: 2, 4, 8, 16…if all the
rabbits live and the pattern continues, 32
how many rabbits will be in the 8th
generation?

IV. EVALUATION:

A. Study the following patterns then supply the missing term to complete the sequence.

1. 2, 4, 7, 11, ____
2. 7, 9, 11, ____, ____, 17, 19

3. 1, 8, 27, 64, 125, ____

4. 5, 10, 7, 14, 11, 22, 19, _____

V. ASSIGNMENT
A. Follow Up
1. Observe the things around you. Take a picture of objects forming a sequence.
