RICARDO ARJONA
Good afternoon, today I want to make my oral presentation about the life
and work of an artist who I have liked for his lyrics. He es Edgar Ricardo Arjona
Morales known as Ricardo Arjona, he was born on 19 January, 1964 in
Jocotenango, Guatemala. Your parents were Mr. Ricardo Arjona Moscoso and
Mrs. Nohemi “Mimi” Morales de Arjona; he is the youngest of three brothers, he
have two sisters, Ingrid and Verónica Arjona. He lived most of his childhood in
Guatemala City, where it started his musical formation.
Ricardo’s parents were a young teacher couple, they know each other at
school in the excersise of their profession; they travel from city to city according to
Ministry of Education.
He was talented basketball player, he was parth of the National team of

Guatemala and he had record of the Guatemalan player whit more points scored in
a single basketball game ( 78 points).
But, when he had ten years old, his father give a gift that would change you
live forever, his first guitar. Then his father taught him to play guitar and his mother
taught him to recite poetry. At twelve years old, he participed in the contest
“Festival Infantil de la Juventud 74”, wich one won with the song “Gracias al
Mundo” a song composed by his father, they showed up two consecutive years,
until he decides to make his first composition.
Althought he started the career of architecture and engeneering, he

graduated from the School of Communication Sciences at University of San Carlos
de Guatemala (USAC). He was teacher school just like his father and he graduated
at seventeen years old. His life elapses between being a teacher , the music and
sport.
At age 24 he search the opportunity to represent his country in the OTI

Festival in Argentina with song “Con una estrella”. There he stayed for a time.
In the city of Buenos Aires he met Puerto Rican Lesli Torres, with whom,
years later,would have his children, Adri and Ricardo Arjona.
He traveled to Mexico City and he work on the Mexican soup opera

“Alcanzar una Estrella”, which allowed him to showcase his songwriting and
singing skills.
In 2006, after a long process of separation, he began a new relationship with

the Venezuelan model Deisy Arvelo, with whom he has his third son named
Nicolas Arjona Arvelo.
Ricardo Arjona is a Guatemalan Singer, songwriter, composer, arranger and
music producer. His music varies from ballad, Latin pop, rock, pop rock, Cuban
sounds, Tejana and Norteña sounds music and Latin sounds. Arjona is one the
most successful Latin American Artists of all time, with more tan 80 million albums
sold. Arjona is known for his lyrical style and often adresses topics such as love,
sexuality, violence, racism and inmigration, religión, psychology and others.
Arjona has worked with numerous artists as Shakira, Celine Dion, Marc Anthony,
Sandro,Yuri, Paquita la del Barrio, Mana. Eros Ramazzotti, Martha Sanchez, Gaby
Moreno among other artists.
His work earned him numerous awards and accolades, including one Grammy
Award, one Latin Grammy Award. The “Latin Heritage” Award as well as awards
from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers; a silver and
Golden torch and two silver seagulls from the 2010 Viña del Mar Internacional
Song Festival, two Billboard Latin Music Awards, and a “Latin Trajectory of the
Year” Award at the Orgullosamente Latino Awards of 2010.

1980’s : Beginnings and early recognition.
In 1985 record his first álbum “Dejame decir que te Amo” but the result
was not as expected. He there was signed a contract with the now defunct
Guatemalan Record label, Discos de Centroamerica S.A., and distributed by
Polygram.
At age 24 he search the opportunity to represent his country in the OTI

Festival in Argentina with song “Con una estrella”. There he stayed for a time.
His second studio álbum called “Jesus Verbo no sustantivo” brought him
comercial and critical success across Latin America and the U.S.A. and became a
bets-seller in Many Central American territories.
At that time he began a relationship with the Puerto Rican Lesli Torres, with
whom, years later, his first children, Adri and Ricardo Arjona, would be born.
1990’s : International recognition. “Si el Norte fuera el Sur” and “Sin daños a
terceros”.
He started the new decade as o known Singer throughout Latin America.

After joining Sony Music in 1990 he released “Del otro lado del sol” one of his
least successful albums. That year, he started composing song for the other artists.
He traveled to Mexico City and he work on the Mexican soup opera “Alcanzar una
Estrella”, which allowed him to showcase his songwriting and singing skills.
At that moment April 25, 1992 Adria Arjona was born, his daughter and two years
later was born Ricardo Arjona son.
After, it was published on February 9, 1993 the fourth studio álbum “Animal
Nocturno” by his new Sony Discos discography, directed by Alosyo Reis, the
álbum sold 500.000 (Five hundred thousand) copies in 1994.
He confirmed his reputation with the reléase of his fifth studio álbum, “Historias” it
is sold 2 million copies troughout Latin America and received twenty seven
platinum and two diamond certifications, including quadruple Platinum in Argentina.
His fourth and fifth studio albums were the best-selling of his career.
In 1996, he released his sixth studio álbum “Si el Norte fuera el sur”. This was
the first álbum in which Arjona ventured beyond the theme of love to explore
nationalismo and globalization, among other sociopolitical topics. Billboard named
it the Rock Album of the year in 1997. It is received multiple Platinum certification
in the United states and Argentina.
In 1998, he released his seventh studio álbum “Sin daños a terceros” achieving
again recognitions in several countries.
On 5 December 1998 and in front of a live audience of more tan 100.00 (hundred
thousand) people at the Hippodrome of Guatemala City, Arjona recorded his first
live álbum, the 1999 release “Vivo”.
2000-2005 : Galeria Caribe, World tour. Santo Pecado and Adentro.
Arjona’s eight studio álbum, “Galeria Caribe” whit wich he made a world tour for
one year.
On 19 November 2002 Arjona released his ninth studio álbum “Santo Pecado”
reaching number 1 on both the Billboard, Top Latin songs and Latin Pop songs.
On 6 December 2005 Arjona released his tenth studio álbum “Adentro”, the
álbum sold more than one million copies worldwide.
In 2006 Arjona started his new tour named “Adentro tour”.In that year, after a long
process of separation, he began a new relationship with the Venezuelan model
Deisy Arvelo, with whom he has his third son named Nicolas Arjona Arvelo.
2008 – 2010 : New label.
Arjona signed a long-term deal with Warner Music Latin in september

2008Arjona announced his eleventh studio álbum “5to Piso” on 18 November
2008. The álbum recivied a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Pop álbum
and Latin Grammy Award nomination for Best Singer-songwriter álbum.
Arjona announced his twelfth studio álbum “Poquita ropa” wich was released on
24 August 2010
Arjona released his thirteenth studio álbum “Independiente” on 4 October 2011,

appearing on his Metamorfosis your own record label, a company he created to
refocus his career, and started his tour in 2012 in Toluca.
2014. “Viaje” is the name of fourteenth studio álbum of Arjona.
2017. “Circo Soledad” is the name of fifteenth market launching on April 21,
2017; published by Metamorfosis. The tour started in 2017, it is traveled America
Latin, Canada and United States.
