Installing on Windows
Before you begin:

There are two installation packages:

envi50win32_setup.exe for 32-bit Windows systems

envi50win64_setup.exe for 64-bit Windows systems

Note: If you have a 64-bit Windows system, use the 64-bit installation package. It includes both 32-
bit and 64-bit versions of ENVI.

You need Administrator privileges to install ENVI. If you do not have such privileges, the installation
process will fail because it cannot modify the system configuration.

To download and install ENVI:

1. Click on the link to download ENVI 5.0.

2. In the Save As dialog, specify a location to save the executable file you are downloading
(envi50win32_setup.exe for 32-bit Windows or envi50win64_setup.exe for 64-bit Windows)
and click Save.

3. After the download is complete, go to the location where you saved the envi50win32_setup.exe
or envi50win64_setup.exe file and double-click on it to begin installing ENVI.

4. Click Setup, and follow the prompts to install ENVI.

Installing on UNIX
Before you begin:

If you plan to install ENVI in a public directory, be sure you have root (or similar) permissions before
running the installer.

To download and install ENVI:

1. Choose a place to install ENVI on your system and create that directory. The default installation
path is /usr/local/exelis.

If you need to create the directory, be sure you have root (or similar) permissions, and issue the
following commands:
% mkdir /usr/local/exelis (to create)

% chmod a+rx /usr/local/exelis (to give access)

2. Select the appropriate download link for your UNIX platform. Click on the link to download ENVI
5.0. The ENVI installation file is a compressed archive; save it in the directory in which you are
installing ENVI (/usr/local/exelis by default).

3. Unpack the archive. First uncompress the file by entering:

% gunzip envi50platform.tar.gz

then untar the file:

% tar xf envi50platform.tar

where platform is the platform type.

4. Now execute the installation program by entering the following command:

% ./install.sh

5. Follow the prompts to install ENVI.

6. If you choose not to create symbolic links, you can set up ENVI by issuing the following
command:

source install_dir/envi50/bin/envi_setup

where install_dir is the main installation directory. Then run the ENVI application.
