INTRODUCTION
Insect repellents are important for prevention of insect airborne diseases as well as
painful or uncomfortable insect bites This study aims to make a natural insect repellent. People
usually use commercially produced insect repellent to kill insects in their house, yet the possible
effects of such products on their health are unknown considering they contain a lot of
chemicals that are unclear to them.Researchers decided to make an organic insect repellent
that is not bad on the health of the people and the environment.
The researchers found out that there is too many mosquitoes in Brgy. Mamatid especially
when the weather is hot. Mosquito bites can carry diseases like dengue, and mosquito bites can
be painful and uncomfortable.
The Department of Health (DOH) August 6, declared a national dengue epidemic as cases
of the mosquito-borne disease continued to rise in the country.
According to the DOH, 622 people have died due to dengue as of July 20 this year. These deaths
came from the 146,062 dengue cases from January to July, a number 98% higher than the
recorded incidence during the same period last year.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This Science Investigatory Project generally aims to produce an insect repellent out of
orange peelings mixed with garlic, alcohol, and lemon grass (tanglad).
1. The effectiveness of orange peelings mixed with garlic, alcohol, and lemon grass (tanglad)
as an alternative insect repellent in terms of:
1.1 Smell
HYPOTHESIS
1. The alternative orange peelings mixed with garlic, alcohol, and lemon grass
(tanglad) is not effective in terms of smell.
2. The alternative orange peelings mixed with garlic, alcohol, and lemon grass
(tanglad) is not effective in terms of duration of the effect.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Researchers The researchers have developed their writing, analysis, and interpretation skills
required to make a good research.
Professors The professors can use this research as an example for the future researchers in
creating a product helping the economy.
Future researchers In this research, the proposed product will inspire the other researchers to
develop an effective and efficient insect repellent.
Families They can use this for securing their health and manage their finance.
Economy The proposed product can develop the economy creating a more better and suitable
insect repellent.
In general, the focus of this study is directed towards the entire procedure of creating a insect
repellent using orange peels mixed with garlic, alcohol, and lemon grass (tanglad).
The research is limited only on the process of the creation of the product using the components
it requires. This organic insect repellent made out of orange peels mixed with garlic, alcohol,
and lemon grass (tanglad) can only kill the soft bodied insects like mosquitoes.
