The type of land use in Shah Alam such as component commercial, transportation,
residential, open space, institution, industries and agricultural land. Based on data from
Iplan residential area have the most land use at Shah Alam and agricultural land also
the biggest land use at Shah Alam.
Site suitability is the method of understanding existing site qualities and factors that will
determine the location for a particular activity. It involves the detailed investigation of
the natural resources and processes that characterize a site and include mapping
techniques including GIS tools that help in processing the geographical database that
display the areas of the site, suitable for various planning objectives and alternatives.
Terrain information is used as a major factor used to evaluate the suitability of a Shah
Alam for school.
2.0 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The aim of the project is about research on site suitability analysis for school in
Shah Alam , Petaling District, Selangor. The aim will be supported by 4 objectives. The
objectives are:
To identify site suitability land for school at Shah Alam, Petaling District , Selangor.
To identify the suitability distance from residential to school according to the
criteria stated.
To apply the land use for school in Shah Alam,Petaling District, Selangor.
To identify the total of residential that nearest to school in Shah Alam.
This study focuses on finding a site suitability evaluation for public facilities in
Shah Alam, Petaling District, Selangor. The study aims to find out the best place for
suitability site for develop an public facilities such as school in the study area by
following several criteria. The methodology for using the application of GIS used for
identifying location suitability which is come up with map and table.
4.0 METHODOLOGY
The base map of Shah Alam District in Petaling with the shapefile data is collected.
The ArcGIS software will be used to analyse and produce the outcome of current land
use and the suitable area for the school. There are several types of criteria in the land
use data is set up to do the detail analysis to find the suitability area. For suitability
analysis, different parameters such as land use, commercial area, industry area, stream
and road are considered and categorized with various attribute layers. We are also use
the contour data from ArcGIS online to produce the elevation and slope.

In this study, land use map of Shah Alam, Petaling district will be use. Data collection
will be using GIS software that is ArcMap to study the criteria of the landuse evaluation
for in Shah Alam, Petaling district to analyse the suitability of public facilities
development which is schools. This study identifies the following factors as indicators
of public facilities which is cover up the criteria namely as landuse, commercial area,
industry area, stream, road, height and slope.
It also performs a GIS spatial analysis in which model are represents as a set of spatial
processes, such as attribute data, feature to raster, Euclidean distance, classification,
reclassify, extract by mask and raster calculator. This process is an often used in site
suitability studies where several factors affect the suitability of a site.
The selection of suitable sites is based upon a specific set of local criteria. The
characteristics of a site influence its suitability for public facilities development which
is schools. This study performs a GIS Spatial analysis in which models are represented
as a set of spatial processes, such as attribute data, feature to raster, Euclidean
distance, classification, reclassify, extract by mask and raster calculator. Each of the
input themes is assigned a weightages influence based on its importance, then the
result is successively multiplied with their factors. This process is often used in site
suitability studies where several factors affect the suitability of the site. Site suitability
is the process of understanding existing site qualities and factors, which will determine
the location of a particular activity.
Proximity to industry area Score Classification Weightages
0 - 500 m 1 Not suitable 0.277
500 – 1000 m 2 Less suitable
1000 – 1500 m 3 Suitable
> 1500 m 4 Most suitable

Map
The map of the suitable development area for school development in Shah Alam,
Petaling District with complete legends will produce.
Table
The table of list area that suitable for the development and cannot be develop. Total
area that can develop in the district. We plot the suitable areas for public facilities
development at Shah Alam, Petaling district.
8.0 CONCLUSION
The important of dataset must be ready before insert raster analysis because it is
required conversion if the source format data is in vector. Conversion can be defined
by using “Feature to Raster” toolset.
Next, we will use Euclidean distance tools to insert the numbering data of each criteria
such as distance for commercial, industry, stream, road, height and slope. After that,
we will reclassify the data based on our criteria to insert the value data and classes.
Last but not least, we will use raster calculator to calculate the analysis numbering to
produce the final result. By insert the data with its weightage in the raster calculator,
we are able to known which area are not-suitable, suitable and most suitable area to
develop the school in Shah Alam, Petaling district with the hectare.
