NOTE If splits are found, replace the steel cable. With the VERTIX
PRO/MP, the support cable must always be replaced after an oper-
ating period of 3 years. See the Maintenance Instructions.
In the following cases, the support cable must be replaced for both VERTIX versions
when:
- 12 or more broken strands in the steel cable can be found in 100 mm.
- 3 or more broken strands in the steel cable can be found in 10 mm.
Even if only one single strand is broken, the operator must be informed that continued use
of the VERTIX can pose a risk to the patient and the operator.
- With the VERTIX PRO/MP, the detector tray and the support plate must be removed to
replace the steel cable.
- With the VERTIX TOP/MT, the steel cable mount is accessible when the Bucky or detec-
tor insert is tilted horizontally and the cover panel is removed on the support plate.

(1/Fig. 53 / p. 40).
NOTE Prior to performing the next work step, all cover panels, the acces-
sories that are normally used and the grid must be installed.
Insert the detector into the detector tray.
NOTE Prior to performing the next work step, all cover panels, the
accessories that are normally used and the grid must be installed.
Insert the detector into the detector tray.
• The R1 potentiometer (1/Fig. 63 / p. 47) is located at the rear of the vertical carriage
(7/Fig. 64 / p. 48).
• The vertical carriage on the Bucky wall stand must be in the reference position; to find
this, move the vertical carriage against the top stop (if the R1 potentiometer is defec-
tive, replace it in this position).
• Connect the Service PC to the processor board in the MULTIX.
• Select the following routine per the SSW:
- Adjustment > Bucky wall stand > Adjustment of the Bucky wall stand potenti-
ometer
• By loosening the set screw on the toothed belt pinion, separate the potentiometer shaft
from the pinion gear.
• Set the zero adjustment by turning the potentiometer shaft.
¹ If the value is within the tolerance (± 2), a signal sounds on the Service PC.
Adjusting the Stop for the 0° Bucky Position (only VERTIX TOP/MT) 0
Fig. 64:
• Move the Bucky into the 0° position.
• Place a spirit level on the front panel and check the position.
• To correct, move the Bucky into the 90° position.
• The position of the Bucky can be changed by turning the stop disk (1/Fig. 64 / p. 48) To
do this, slightly loosen the clamping screw (2/Fig. 64 / p. 48) and turn the stop screw
accordingly. Check the position on the spirit lever that has been placed on.
• Tighten the clamping screw (2/Fig. 64 / p. 48) and check the adjustment position in the
0° position; if needed, repeat the adjustment.
General Settings
For configuration of the DIP switches and jumpers, the Wiring Diagram G051G is defini-
tive:
Set the X4.1-2 "END NOTE" jumper if the Bucky is installed in the VERTIX.
Set the X4.2-3 "NO END NOTE" jumper if the Bucky is installed in the MULTIX.
S3.3 = ON i.e., the transfer rate must be set to 100 kBaud (see the S3.6 DIP
switches).
S3.4 = OFF Plane A means that the Bucky is installed in the MULTIX.
ON Plane B means that the Bucky is installed in the VERTIX.
S3.5 = ON Mixed mode (cassettes in inches/cm) permitted
OFF Mixed mode is not permitted
S3.6 = ON 125 k Baud (ICONOS)
OFF 100 k Baud/ 300 k Baud
The MANUAL MODE programming is relevant in the MULTIX TOP man. system with D55.
The programming of S3.3 to S3.6 has another meaning with the MULTIX TOP man. (see
grid lead time).
The grid lead time must be set according to the table in Wiring Diagram G051G, Page 2A
for DIP switches S3.3 to 3.7 (only with the manual system).
NOTE The allocation of the grid speed to the grid model being used is
fundamental for exposures that can be evaluated.
With a switch of the grid model (even at a later time), a change of
the grid speed is absolutely required.
Grid Blurring
For every application unit with movable grid, a check must be performed to determine at
which exposure time, tg, grid stripes no longer can be seen on the film.
Procedure
• Select small focus, 80%, 40 kV and middle IONTOMAT chamber at the generator.
NOTE With the MULTIX TOP manual system without processor, the grid
lead time cannot be changed using the Service PC and must be
checked as described below. The programming must be per-
formed as described previously in the section "Bucky". Grid
stripes must be checked using control exposures and must be
eliminated by changing the programming of S3 (D30 Bucky
table/VERTIX).
• If the grid lead time must be changed, the test setup and the measurement must be per-
formed as defined in (Fig. 65 / p. 52).
The generator lead time can be changed using the Service PC under:
Adjustment > Table > Adjustment of Bucky rate time
(with the TOP man., using DIP switches S3.3 - S3.7)
.
- The time that is set is applicable for both the Bucky in the table and the VERTIX.
- Grid stripes with exposure times of ≥ 3 ms are inadmissible.
Grid Drive
The lead time has been set at the factory to a value of 34 ms.
NOTE The check of the lead time that is entered is performed in the
"Check of Grid Blurring" (with the 12/40 grid and faster grid move-
ment).
The relationship between lead time and grid movement and the problem of grid stripes
associated with it is shown in the following graphic (table and BWS). This example is for
the LX / SX generator in the cassette mode for the film technique.
Fig. 65:
Top chart (Fig. 65 / p. 52): time of grid movement with the time point of radiation release.
Bottom chart (Fig. 65 / p. 52): Enable signal relative to grid movement.
NOTE The programmed lead time applies for both Buckys contained in
the system. If different grid models are used, and thus also grid
speeds, optimization of the lead time makes sense.
Example
Very brief exposure times and slow grid speeds (17/70 grid mode) require a lead time of
virtually 0 to position this grid focused to the film.
The lead time can be changed using the Service PC (except for TOP man. with D55).
• For this, select the following routine per the SSW:
- Adjustment > Table > Adjustment of the Bucky rate time
This repair kit should make it possible to repair a catapult Bucky in one session and at the
same time, bring it up to the latest technical status.
Prior to beginning the work, please carefully read the explanations in the error tree.
Install all parts of the repair kit; only then can reliable operation be ensured.
NOTE Catapult Buckys, Part No. 04 76 630 and Part No. 04 77 216, Serial
Nos. 01001 to 03000 must be replaced completely for the reasons
listed below.
If boards or firmware are defective in a malfunction situation,
there are no replacements for them!
Catapult Buckys, Part No. 04 76 630 and Part No. 04 77 216 begin-
ning with Serial No. 03001 must be repaired in a malfunction situ-
ation using the Replacement Part Kit, Part No. 80 92 962.

NOTE Prior to installing a new D30 assembly, clean the catapult Bucky
and remove all foreign substances, e.g. lead markers, from the
insert. The new D31 assembly (1/Fig. 67 / p. 62) must always be
plugged in for correct function of the Bucky, even in manual sys-
tems! For a successful error analysis at the factory, it is also nec-
essary that damage be avoided when removing a defective
assembly.
• When removing and installing the D30 assembly, there is a risk that the conductor
paths on the bottom can be damaged by the mounting screws. Removing and inserting
the assembly in the slot must therefore be done without exerting any force. To ensure
this, slightly lift the catapult Bucky and insert the D30 at an angle into the mounting slot
of the insert (1/Fig. 68 / p. 62).
• The correct DIP positions can be checked with (DIP Switch Settings on the D30 / p. 71).
• The reflex sensors (1/Fig. 69 / p. 63) U10,U11,U20,U21 on the D30 must be aligned
vertically to the board assembly. If these have been bend during transport or handling,
their vertical alignment must be reestablished.
• In particular, the function of the sensor for detection of the inserted position of the insert
tray (U11; U21) must be checked. Incorrect alignment can lead to failure of format sens-
ing and to blocking of radiation triggering. While checking the function, the IONTOMAT
chamber must be installed, otherwise external light can lead to a malfunction.
• If the version of the catapult Bucky found at the customer's location has a mounting nut
(1/Fig. 70 / p. 63) for the cable channel directly above the reflex sensor, it must be
blackened (e.g. with paint) or, if needed, removed. In newer inserts, this nut is offset to
the reflex sensor.
• Prior to reinstalling the IONTOMAT chamber, check it for damage, e.g. for scratches,
dirt or discoloration, particularly on the bottom.
• If damage is found, replace the IONTOMAT chamber.
• To do this, loosely secure the D30 (1/Fig. 71 / p. 64) using the spacer studs on the cata-
pult Bucky.
• Plug the D31 assembly (1/Fig. 72 / p. 64) onto the D30 assembly; when doing so, pay
attention to the relationship of the installation slot for left-hand operation
(2/Fig. 71 / p. 64) (X10/11/12) or right-hand operation (3/Fig. 71 / p. 64) (X20/21/22).
NOTE Installation of the supplied black cover plate for the outlet grid and
the electrical connection are not yet necessary.
• Loosely secure the D31 assembly (1/Fig. 72 / p. 64) in place with 2 screws on the D30
assembly.
Fig. 74:
Fig. 73:
NOTE For correct function of format sensing, the D31 plug-in assembly
and thus also the D30 assembly must be adjusted in the insert tray
relative to the holes.
Even with manual catapult Buckys, the D31 must always be
installed, otherwise it can cause malfunctions.
• Replace the profile rail (1/Fig. 75 / p. 66) with the profile rail included in the shipment;
for this:
- remove the two Allen screws and remove the plate (2/Fig. 75 / p. 66).
- Carefully pull the IONTOMAT chamber connector (3/Fig. 75 / p. 66) forward out of
the slot,
Make sure that this cable does not get damaged.
- Remove the 2 Allen screws (1/Fig. 76 / p. 66) on the grid drive.
- Pull out the profile rail towards the front,
- Remove any black wear that is present in the catapult Bucky.
- Clean, lubricate the bearings (2/Fig. 76 / p. 66) (Longtime PD2) and make sure there
is easy movement.
- Install the profile rail included in the shipment in the reverse order of the above
instructions.
NOTE The contact surfaces on the profile rail may not be lubricated!
• When installing the position plate (3/Fig. 76 / p. 66), make sure that it is straight and the
sides do not interrupt the photo-sensitive cell paths (4/Fig. 76 / p. 66).
• Perform a function check as described in (Checking the Function of the Grid Drive with
Installed Grid / p. 69).
For heavier patients, the glide piece prevents the frame of the catapult Bucky guide from
pressing on the grid, which sporadically prevents exposure.
• To gain access to the catapult Bucky, the protective plate under the tabletop must be
removed.
- The description of this can be found in the SIRESKOP SX/SD Online Help under Ser-
vice Tips, Removing the Protective Plate.
• Move the tabletop all the way to the head end.
• Move the catapult Bucky all the way to the foot end.
• Place the update parts so they are ready as shown in (Fig. 77 / p. 67) along with a 2.5
mm Allen wrench.
• Attach a strip (approx. 30 mm) of double-sided adhesive tape (1/Fig. 78 / p. 67) on the
strut of the catapult Bucky as shown in (Fig. 78 / p. 67).
- The adhesive surface must be clean and free of grease.
- Distance to the frame, approx. 15 mm.
• Seal the plastic bag included in the shipment and secure it with two strips of tape as
shown in (Fig. 78 / p. 67).
- This is needed as a spacer for inserting and positioning the glide piece.
Fig. 79:
• Place the glide piece behind the adhesive surface (1/Fig. 79 / p. 68), place it on the seal
(2/Fig. 79 / p. 68) of the plastic bag and slide it carefully under the frame.
- To do this, slightly lift the frame (3/Fig. 79 / p. 68).
- Use the edge (4/Fig. 79 / p. 68) as a guide.
- Insert the glide piece until the paneling screw (5/Fig. 79 / p. 68) can be inserted.
- Align the glide piece to the edge.
- Carefully pull the plastic bag under the glide piece; while doing this, press on the glide
piece.
- Remove the paneling screw; in its place, insert an M4x6 countersunk screw.
- Use your hand to firmly press the glide piece against the adhesive surface.
• As a check, move the catapult Bucky over the entire movement path in the table.
• Reinstall the protective panel.

• After switching on the system, the grid first runs into the rear position and then into the
start position (5/Fig. 76 / p. 66) and stops there.
• Mark the grid start position with pencil on the profile rail and Bucky housing.
• After switching the system Off / On, the grid must again move into the marked start
position.
• If there are malfunctions, check the electrical connections, the location of the position
plate, photo-electric cells and the condition of the grid.

During analysis of the returned detector cables, it has been found that many cables on the
side of the detector were broken behind the kink protector. The cable break was some-
times caused by incorrectly laying the cable in the detector insert in the VERTIX MP/MT
(too much kink).
As a corrective measure, an improved cable, adhesive labels and instruction labels for
correct laying of the cable in the detector insert have been introduced.
