    Environmental engineering is the branch of engineering that is concerned with protecting people from the

    effects of adverse environmental effects, such as pollution, as well as improving environmental quality.

    Environmental science is the study of the effects of natural and unnatural processes, and of interactions of
    the physical components of the planet on the environment.

    Wilderness or wildland is a natural environment on Earth that has not been significantly modified
    by human activity.

    Ethics or moral philosophy is a branch of philosophy that involves systematizing, defending, and
    recommending concepts of right and wrong conduct.

    Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the
    ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

    Biodiversity is the foundation of ecosystem services to which human well-being is intimately linked.

    Green building is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally
    responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle from siting to design, construction,
    operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction.

    Renewable energy is energy from sources that are naturally replenishing but flow-limited; renewable
    resources are virtually inexhaustible in duration but limited in the amount of energy that is available per unit of
    time.

    Pollution is the process of making land, water, air or other parts of the environment dirty and not safe or
    suitable to use.

    Risk involves exposure to some type of danger and the possibility of loss or injury. In general, risks can apply
    to your physical health or job security.

    Point sources release pollutants from discrete conveyances, such as a discharge pipe, and are regulated by
    federal and state agencies.

    Nonpoint source pollution is a combination of pollutants from a large area rather than from specific
    identifiable sources such as discharge pipes.
