One day, Daisy decided to buy Donald a new hat "Your hat is so old-fashioned !" she
said. "Come on, I'll buy you a new one."
Donald knew that Daisy was right, so he agreed to go to a hat shop. As they went in,
Daisy took off his old hat. "Hey,what's going on ?" Asked Donald.
"I'm taking off your old hat because it's so ugly. We don't want the assistant to see you
wearing it, do we ?" said Daisy. Donald just said, "Er ....no,.... I mean, you're right, we
don't."
In fact, Donald was very fond of his old hat, although he didn't mind getting a new one if
Daisy paid for it. The trouble was this : There wasn't any hats in the shop that Donald
liked. He tried many hats, but he felt that all hats looked silly on him.
The shop assistant was getting tired of serving Donald, but he took another hat and
showed it to him. "What about this one, Sir ? I'm sure you'll like it."
"I quite agree !" Said Donald happily. Do you know why ? Because that hat looked
exactly the same as his old one ! Poor Daisy, she wasn't very happy, but she had to pay
for that hat. She promised she would buy a new hat for Donald, didn't she ?

Respiration system helps the body take oxygen from the air. The most important organs
in the respiration system are nose, mouth, trachea, lungs, and diaphragm.
Respiratory system, in anatomy and physiology, are organs that deliver oxygen to the
circulatory system for transport to all body cells. Both work together to deliver oxygen to
cells and remove carbon dioxide in a two-phase process called respiration.
The first phase of respiration begins with breathing in, or inhalation. Inhalation brings air
from outside the body into the lungs. Oxygen in the air moves f/om the lungs through
blood vessels to the hearth, which pumps the oxygen-rich blood to all parts of the body.
Oxygen then moves from the bloodstream into cells, which completes the first phase of
respiration In the cells, oxygen is used in a separate energy-producing process called
cellular respiration, which produces carbon dioxide as a byproduct.
The second phase of respiration begins with the movement of carbon dioxide from the
cells to the bloodstream. The bloodstream carries carbon dioxide-laden blood to the
lungs. In the lungs, breathing out or exhalation, removes carbon dioxide from the body,
thus completing the respiration cycle.

b. after carbon dioxide-laden blood enters the lungs
c. before removing carbon dioxide from the body
d. when exhaling carbon dioxide from the body

The sun can be used as a source of fuel for power plants. Such power plants are still in
the beginning stages now. It would not be too much to expect that such experimental
plants may lead the way to a wider use of solar energy to run machine.
The sun can also be used in telephone communications, in space technology, and in
farming. Solar batteries have been in experimental use for a number of years to power
telephone lines. Such batteries are now being used to re-fill batteries which power space
instruments. It is said that scientists have also succeeded in developing solar pumps
that can raise water for irrigation.
Certainly the sun's energy has many other possible uses. AN of these seem to be
very ideal. It is a pity, however, that to change the abundant sunlight into energy
remains something else. The instruments needed to catch the sun's energy are still
very expensive. For this reason, for example the solar pumps are seldom use.
However, once man succeeds in catching even a small part of the sun's energy
cheaply, no one would worry about running out of fossil fuels or atomic-energy ores.
It lies in the hands of the scientist to make this dream of the future come true.

How Photosynthesis works
Photosynthesis is a very complex process, and for the sake of convenience and
ease of understanding , plant biologists divide it into two stages.
In the first stage, the light-dependent reaction, the chloroplast traps light energy and
converts it into chemical energy contained in nicotinamide adenine dinucieotide
phosphate (NADPH) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP), two molecules used in the
second stage of photosynthesis.
In the second stage, called the light-independent reaction (formerly called the dark
reaction), NADPH provides the hydrogen atoms that help form glucose, and ATP
provides the energy for this and other reaction used to synthesize to glucose.
These two stages reflect the literal meaning of the term photosynthesis, to build with
light.

a. What Photosynthesis is. d.
b. Why Photosynthesis occurs. e.
c. How Photosynthesis Works.
38. In the second step of photosynthesis ....
a. all reactions depend on sunlight d.
b. sunlight is needed e.
c. solar energy is created
39. What gives hydrogen atom in the process of photosynthesis ?
a. NADPH ' d. ATP
b. glucose e. light
c. dark reaction
40. Which of the following statements, is not true ?
