Conference 1st Period 7:51-8:37
SPANISH I: This class is designed for Spanish speaking students but will focus more on extended
vocabulary, grammar rules, sentence structure and writing strategies. Students will learn about culture,
specific topic vocabulary and learn reading comprehension skills. In this class, students are expected to
know some reading skills and some basic Spanish vocabulary. Students are expected to converse 50% of
the time in Spanish at the beginning of the school year and end the year with 100% Spanish speaking in
class.
SPANISH II: This class is designed for students who have passed the Spanish I expectations. Students will
continue to learn about culture; write elaborate sentences and compose standard essays; learn upper
level grammar rules, including but not limited to accent rules, past, present and future tense; and higher
order vocabulary.
ESPAÑOL AP: The AP Spanish Language and Culture course is 100% in Spanish and it emphasizes
communication spoken and written (understanding and being understood by others) by applying
interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational skills in real-life situations. This includes vocabulary
usage, language control, communication strategies, and cultural awareness. The AP Spanish Language
and Culture is equivalent to an intermediate level college course in Spanish.
Grading:
Daily News: Students will be graded on Daily News (bi-weekly paper given to them in which
they will receive a stamp for their work). If a student is absent, they are responsible for doing
the daily news, showing the teacher when they return. Teacher will stamp daily news for student.
Students will be responsible for daily news and will turn it in every two weeks for a daily grade.
Spelling Tests/Quizzes: Students will be given spelling words that are being reviewed and studied
through that specific subject/chapter, as well as weekly tests.
Culture: Students will learn the components of culture and will be expected to write the
different components of the city, State, Country being studied in that specific chapter.
Chapter Exams: Spanish I and II are accompanied with required chapter exams.
Daily work/Homework: to assure that students are grasping concepts, homework will be
assigned occasionally as well as thematic projects.
Projects:
Teacher can assign projects at different times of the year, depending on the theme being studied.
These projects will have a rubric and students will be given ample amount of time to complete the
project. These projects will be taken for a test grade.
Some example of projects are:
- Independencia de Mexico
- Descubrimiento de America
- Dia de Muertos
- Piñatas Navideñas
- Rosca de Reyes
- Bandera de Mexico
- 5 de Mayo
Policies:
Tardies:
- 1st tardy - verbal warning
- 2nd tardy – parent phone call
- 3rd tardy – write up to office
Late work:
Due to the fact that elective teachers have a higher number of students in their classes, it is the student’s
responsibility to make arrangements with teacher for late work before or after class. We have homework
assistance in F111 & F117. Arrangements must be made in advance for afterschool tutorial. A 1 day
extended time for excused absences will be allotted to students (unless otherwise stated on
modifications/accommodations page or medical situations). If work is not turned in within that day,
the student will receive a zero and will be unable to make up the assignment.
Classroom Etiquette:
Students are expected to follow the classroom rules:
1. Be on time.
2. Come prepared
3. Positive attitude
4. Good disposition
5. Do my work, and
6. I am respectful to myself and to others.
Students are expected to respect school, teacher and other students’ property. Any violation and BISD
policy will be followed.
Parents are encouraged to check the status of their students’ grades through “online gradebook”
program and may contact me through the REMIND app or e-mail. I look forward to work with your
child this school year and hope to accomplish all goals of the Spanish Speaking Language.
