IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing or Activity: Revisiting Roots of Equations
presenting the
new lesson Note to the Teacher:
Divide the class into six groups.
Let each group answer the given activity below:
B. Establishing a
purpose for the Motive Questions:
lesson 1. What do you call the given equations? (expected answer:
polynomial equations)
D. Discussing new The teacher discusses the definition and other concepts of
concepts and polynomial equations. (Refer to Worksheet –Discusssion)
practicing new
skills #1
E. Discussing new Activity: Finding Roots of Polynomial Equations
concepts and
practicing new Find the roots of the following polynomial equations by
skills #2 applying the Zero-Product Property:
1. (x+3)(x-2)(x+1)(x-1) = 0
2. (x+5)(x-5)(x+5)(x-1) = 0
3. (x+4)2 (x-3)3 = 0
4. x(x-3)4 (x+6)2 = 0
5. x2 (x-9) = 0
Expected answer:
1. x=-3, x=2, x=-1, x=1
2. x=-5, x=5, x=-5, x=1
3. x=-4(2 times), x=3(3 times)
4. x=0, x=3(4 times), x=-6(2 times)
5. x=0(2 times), x=9
2. x3 – 2x2- 4x + 8 = 0 (3)
Expected answer:
1. x=0, x=3
2. x=2, x=-6
3. x=-1 of multiplicity 2, x=5 of multiplicity 3
4. x=0 of multiplicity 3, x=6, x=-1

DISCUSSIONS:
The number of real roots in the equation is less than or equal to the
degree of the equation. A consequence of the Fundamental Theorem of
Algebra states that “every polynomial equation of degree n has at most n
real roots.
x=-1, x=2
