LEARNING OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, the learner:

1) Identify the Characteristics of writing effective paragraphs.


2) Apply the characteristics of writing an effective paragraphs in creating a well-written text.
3) Compose an essay about how to cook a local recipe or delicacy from the community.

TIME ALLOTMENT 180 minutes

LESSON OUTLINE: During the lesson, the learners will:

1. Introduction/Review: Read a sample paragraph and identify the topic sentence and the supporting details.
2. Motivation: Evaluate if the sample paragraph has unity, adequate development,and coherenceby using logical order and signal devices.
3. Instruction/Delivery: Understand how to write paragraphs effectively.
4. Practice: Critiquing sample paragraphs and identify its characteristics.
5. Enrichment: Writing a paragraph about a person they like or admire.
6. Evaluation: Create an essay about how to cook local recipe that students learn at home.

MATERIALS Video clips, laptop, visual aid, projector

INSTRUCTION/DELIVERY

Tell the students how to write effective paragraphs:

a. Unity - simply means that all of the sentences in the paragraph are related to topic sentence.
b. Adequate Development – the topic sentence in the paragraph should be elaborated on using
concrete evidences, different examples, relevant facts, and specific details.
c. Coherence – this means that the sentences are arranged in a logical manner, making them easily
understood by the reader. Coherence is achieved when ideas flow smoothly

PRACTICE

Presents sample paragraphs and ask students to evaluate what characteristics of effective paragraphs are
manifested.

ENRICHMENT

After discussing the characteristics of writing effective paragraphs, students will then be asked to choose
a partner and write a paragraph about what they like about each other. Working with their partners, they
will identify what flaws exist in their paragraphs. After getting feedback from their partner, they will
revise their paragraphs by applying the techniques they learned from this lesson.

EVALUATION

Students will think of what food or local recipe they want to promote in the community. They will then make a an
essay about and promote it on online by posting it in Facebook.
