INSTALLATION SUMMARY

1. The Radome should be fitted where it has a clear view of the sky, and
is not within close proximity to any other radio equipment or RADAR
installation.

2. A 20 metre Antenna cable is supplied to connect the Radome to the

Junction Box.

3. The Junction Box should be fitted ideally above the head lining inside
the ship, usually in the Bridge or Radio Room. For best practice, the
Junction box should not be visible.

4. The SeaGuard Junction box can be connected to Ship’s power either

240 Volt AC or 24 Volt DC.

5. The Two Security switches supplied need to be connected to the

Junction box using the two-core switch cable supplied (50 Metres).

6. The SeaGuard has four zones, and normally two switches are
connected to two of the zones. Two zones are spare.

7. The Switches supplied are normally open. The SeaGuard Junction box
is supplied with all wire links and zones set for normally closed
switches.

Installation Procedure Overview

1 Fit the Radome on the upper surface of the vessel where it has an
unobstructed view of the sky and is at least 1.5 metres away from
any other transmission equipment.

2 The Radome should never be fitted directly beneath a RADAR

installation.

3 Lead the Antenna cable through a deck fitting (Pipe or Gland) to

the site for mounting the Junction box.

4 The Junction Box is best fitted above the head lining on the Bridge
and preferably near a Ship’s Power outlet (240 volts AC).

5 Fit one Security alert switch on the bridge and using the cable
supplied lead the cable back to the Junction box.

6 Fit the second Security alert switch in a suitable location and as

defined in the Ship’s security plan. The location must not be on the
bridge. Suggested options are the Captain’s day cabin or the Radio
room.

7 Terminate the Ship’s power cable, the two security switch cables
and the Antenna cable as shown in these instructions. DO NOT
SWITCH ON THE SHIP’S POWER TO THE JUNCTION BOX,
UNTIL ALL CONNECTIONS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED.

Installing the Security Alert Switches

Overview

The security Alert switches are activated by pressing the switch button for
more than one second. When activated, the SeaGuard will be in Security
Alert mode and transmit a Security Alert message including the ship’s name,
position, course and speed every fifteen minutes.

Security Alert Switches:

Two Switches are provided with the installation. Additional switches can be
provided

Security Alert switches may be either normally open or normally closed;

provision is made for setting the Alert switch type within the junction box.

Switches can be connected one per zone or “Daisy Chained” onto one zone,
to extend the switch distance from the Junction box

Normally open switches are the most commonly available and require a
specific “End of line” resistor of 4k7 OHMS to be fitted. This monitors the alert
switch cables continuity and integrity.

A cut line causes the SeaGuard to transmit a fault, and is also indicated
within the junction box.

For Extended Distance Switches, switches may be simply paralleled in one

run and connected to one zone. The end of line resistor is connected across
the last switch on the run.

Normally closed switches are not standard, but require no end of line
resistor.

For Extended Distance Switches, normally open switches can be connected

in series in one run and connected to one zone. An additional single way
terminal block will be required within each Switch box to be extended.

An end of line resistor is not required.

A cut line initiates the SeaGuard security alert and also indicates as an
alert in the junction box.

Security Alert Switch configurations

Configuration A

Use this configuration for normally open switches when the switches are
positioned radially from the junction box. An end of line resistor (4K7
Ohms) is required for each switch in each zone.

Normally each security alert switch is connected to a separate zone. Two

zones are therefore spare and unused. The end of line resistor (4K7
Ohms) must be fitted to the spare zone connections on the interface
board.

Configuration B

Use this configuration when Normally open switches are in a straight run
or spur from the junction box, or when a single switch requires an
extension switch fitted.

An end of line resistor (4K7 Ohms) must be fitted to the last switch in each
zone.

Configuration C

Use this configuration for Normally Closed switches when the switches are
positioned radially from the junction box.

Configuration D

Use this configuration when Normally Closed switches are fitted in a

straight run or spur from the junction box, or when a single switch requires
an extension fitted.

An insulated connector (Not Supplied) will be required for each switch

extended.

Installing the Junction box and Interface Board

Junction Box General Summary:

1 The Junction box provides an interface between the Security Alert

Switches and the SeaGuard Radome.

2 It provides an installation facility for either normally open or

normally closed Security Alert Switches, with four separate input
channels/zones.

3 The Junction box also provides an Installers set-up function and led
display, and an integral Power Supply. The Power Supply converts
the incoming ship supply to a safe low voltage DC feed to the
Radome.

4 Interruption of services to or within the Junction Box are sensed

and indicated therein, and also transmitted as an alarm to the
Radome.

Live Testing:

1. Live Testing is not required if the installation, commissioning and

initialising procedures have been followed correctly.

2. The SeaGuard system is completely self-testing and sends a status

report to MarineTrack every six hours.

3. Live testing should only be carried out for exceptional reasons as too
many live tests may jeopardise an immediate response to a genuine
security alert.

4. Live Testing can only be carried out with the prior permission of
MarineTrack and during NORMAL U.K. office hours ( +/- 3 hours
Midday GMT)

5. To conduct a live test contact MarineTrack by email giving the name of

the vessel, the time (GMT) and the date you wish to conduct the test to
[email protected]

6. MarineTrack will confirm the test time and date is acceptable, or

suggests an alternative time and date.

7. At the agreed time activate a security alert by pressing a security alert

Dry Dock Procedure

If the vessel is entering Dry Dock or powering down for an extended period of
more than 3 days then the following power down procedure must be used to
protect the standby battery inside the SeaGuard.

Failure to power down according to these instructions will cause the internal
battery to run flat and will damage the internal battery. In these circumstances
the battery should be replaced before powering the ship up.

Please note MarineTrack recommend replacing the internal battery every two
years. This can be done by any MarineTrack service agent.

Power down Procedure

1. Remove the cover of the Junction box.

2. Turn off Ships power to the Junction box.
3. The "Supply OK" LED will Fade.
4. Press the Power Down button located beside pins 2 & 3 of the
