Danny 'the dog' and Roger 'the rooster' lived in the same farmyard and became the best
of friends.
They decided to go on holiday together. Roger wrapped some seeds in a leaf and tucked
them under his wing, Danny took some bones, and off they set. That night, Roger perched
in a tree to see the sun rising and be ready to crow. Danny, who liked a good night's sleep,
found a comfy bed at the foot of the tree. At dawn, Roger started crowing loudly to wake
everyone up. Danny was turning over to go back to sleep when he heard a voice.
It was a wicked fox, whose mouth was watering as he looked up at the rooster and thought
of breakfast. "What a fine voice," he said.
"Please come down so I can hear you better." "You'll have to ask my friend," said Roger,
pointing a wing at the dog. As the fox came near Danny, with a growl, Danny leapt out and
killed the fox. That is why it is being said that if you want to catch a thief you have to set a
thief.

B. All that Glitters is not Gold
Once there lived a farmer with his greedy wife .Once when he went to his land, and started
ploughing through the soil. He got a golden box suddenly. He removed it and brought it up
to his home. His wife was waiting for him in the house .She became happy by seeing that
her husband had come with a golden box. She asked “Is it a golden box?” They opened the
box and saw a lot of food inside it .She said to her friends proudly that she has got the
golden box. When all friends came to see what is inside, she gave a surprise meal for all of
them. She thought the food was tasty but when all of them ate the food, it was all stones.
She learnt a lesson that day that all that glitters is not gold.

An old man had three daughters. He loved all of them. Once he asked them to prepare a
delicious meal for him so that he blesses them. The first daughter took her food to her
father. It was very delicious so she received abundant blessings from her father. The
second daughter took hers and the food was not tasty and delicious because she didn't take
time to prepare and also she used rotten food ingredients. The second daughter did not
receive any blessings from her father. The third daughter took hers and the food was not
very tasty as well because she made her food with little items to save money. So the first
daughter received blessings for her dedication.
Lesson learnt: Honour your father no matter how old he may be and always do good to
him at all times.

Save Electricity
Dear Principal, respected teachers and my dear friends, I am here to take about why is it
important to save electricity. Electricity is obtained from fossil fuels and they are non-
renewable source of energy which will be depleted one day. Many regions in our county
still do not have electricity but in big cities people are misusing electricity by unnecessary
lighting during festivals, in election campaigns and over usage of heavy appliances like
T.V., computer and other appliances. We should turn off the appliances when not needed,
avoid artificial lights if natural light is available, insulate are homes properly and use
energy saving light bulbs. Conserve electricity today so that the future generations can
use it tomorrow.
Thanks.

I would like to draw your kind attention towards the insanitary condition of our area.
Heaps of garbage and the local factories dump have made the life poor. There is a big drain
of dirty water, running in our locality. The local factories dump poisonous and hazardous
chemicals in the drain. The result is that its water is highly contaminated. It is polluted and
its water gives out a pungent smell.
No wonder our locality has become an area of garbage. Cases of malaria and water borne
diseases are on the rise. Many people are suffering from diarrhoea and other water borne
diseases. Some are suffering from asthma and infectious diseases.
Urgent steps should be taken to remove heaps of garbage and taken to a distant place.
Drains need to be cleaned. The locality should be properly sprayed with disinfectants.
Teams of health officers should be sent to detect cases of malaria and other diseases.
I, therefore, request you to take personal interest in the matter and initiate prompt
programmes to avoid any diseases in future.
Thank you very much.
Yours sincerely

Dear brother,
I hope you are well. I wrote this letter to request you to focus on your studies. If
you're studying intently, you are going to get thirsty. Grab a beverage before you open the
book. You may even need a power snack while you are working so grab some brain food,
too. One tip to keep your mind full of knowledge is reading newspaper every day.
By the way, I hope my tip would be useful for you and you would stop watching
T.V. and start enjoying your moments in reading newspapers every day.
Take care

Subject: To inform about the cruelty against animals.
To,
The Editor,
Times of India,
Delhi.
Dear Sir,
As an active member of the youth wing of the SPCA, I wish to protest, through the
pages of your esteemed newspaper, against the cruelty to animals. Recently I have had the
misfortune of witnessing the most overburdened bullock – cart on the road. Such was the
weight of the burden that the poor bull found it impossible to move.
This inhuman behaviour is visible even while making the animals perform for
amusement or while caging them for exhibitions.

I would like to point out that it is improper and wrong on our part to be cruel and
inhumane in our treatment to animals. We should look for effective ways and means to
rectify our folly. Even if each one of us pledges to perform an act of kindness towards
animals we will be bound to change for better.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,

Sir,
Corruption has become so common in public life that people are now averse to thinking of
public life without this phenomenon. But it is only recently that corruption has become
rampant in our public life, people no longer protest against corrupt practice, fight injustice
or express any shock when big scandals are exposed. Our entire system is bound to
collapse if we do not rise to the occasion and face the glaring truth with courage, foresight
and patience.
Therefore, as a secretary of Anti-Corruption Cell I urge you to take advantage of your
reputed newspaper and spread public awareness to kill this menace.
Thank you

Dear Brother,
Happy Diwali in advance! Hope this letter finds you happy and enjoying the leisure
time after examinations. You know that the festival of Diwali is approaching fast. I would
like to inform you that this Diwali, four of my friends and I have decided to make people
aware of the futility of bursting crackers on Diwali.
I do not find any reason for wasting so much money on exploding crackers, which not
only pollute the atmosphere but also cause outbreak of fire on many occasions. Many
times, the fire caused by the crackers endangers human lives and destroys huge
properties. On one side, people are wasting money in exploding crackers and on the other
people do not have sufficient food to eat. It's better to contribute money to help them. I
hope you have a great Diwali.

Each Drop Counts
We use water for many purposes like drinking, washing, bathing, cooking etc. Most of the
time we take water for granted. It is only during the summer season we can understand the
value of it, when we have to face its shortage. 22nd March, is celebrated as the World
Water Day. Water is vital for life on earth. All animals and plants need water to survive.
Human beings need water the most. Our body itself contains more than 70% of water.
Shortage of water has become a worldwide problem as the fresh water resources have
declined due to increasing population and pollution.
For human beings there are number of ways, they can adopt to minimise the wastage of
water. Few of them can be such as turn the tap off while not in use, as while brushing or
washing of clothes or vegetables etc. You should not let your children to pollute the water.
Adopt the rain water for some purposes as 'Each drop Counts'.
There is a proverb in Hindi. “JAL HAI TO KAL HAI” which means if there is water then
only our future is safe. Therefore, from today only let's start saving each and every drop of
water and conserve this precious resource.

Importance of Trees
Trees are our best friends. They provide us so many things and expect nothing in return
except love and care. Trees give us different fruits in different seasons like mango, apple,
banana, grapes and orange etc. They give us timber (wood) for building our houses and
buildings. We get many medicines from plants like cinchona, aconite, coriander,
horehound, tulsi, neem and garlic. Trees also help in making the air clean. They take in
carbon dioxide and give out oxygen thus making the air clean. Trees also provide shelter
to many animals. The roots of trees bind the soil and help it from being washed away by
water or wind. They help in maintaining right temperature on earth. To conserve the trees
it is important to control deforestation. The government is taking many steps for
conserving trees. We should follow those steps in order to save the trees. These trees are
the one who support life on earth. So save trees.

Save the Forests
Forests are essential for the sustainability of planet earth. Forests command great
influence on the climate, soil and environment of our world.
We should save forest as a protection against floods and famines. Forests prevent floods
and reduce soil erosion by regulating the flow of water.
Adequate forest cover also ensures a sustainable and safe environment. Forest helps in
increasing the humidity of the air and cause greater rainfall.
We can save forests by stopping the cutting of trees, establishing new forests and re-
establishing old forests. We can save the forests through a balanced comprehensive and

well thought out plan.

Save Wild Animals
Like forests, wild life is also a natural resource, which not only helps in maintaining the
ecological balance but is also beneficial from economic, recreational and aesthetic point
of view. But with the expansion of agriculture, settlement, industrial and other
development activities and mainly due to greed of man, the number of wild animals has
decreased and gradually species of animals have become extinct and several, others are
on the verge of being so.
We can save wild animals from being hunted as they are used in making consumer
products. From soap to cosmetics and cleaners, all have been cruelly tested on animals
that are intentionally poisoned or blinded. By buying cruelty free products and checking
the packaging of the products we can control their hunting. Other ways are to support
organisations that protect these animals, use natural cleaners and not ignore stray animals
on the street. Let us try and save them from being hunted.
