6 MONTHS OLD BABY FOOD CHART (180-210 DAYS)

1.One meal a day in the morning as breakfast and breastfeed on demand for the rest of the day .Give sips of water after meal. Water shouldn’t exceed

40 ml in a day till 12 months of age. Quantity of the meal is determined by the baby. Initially start with 2-3 spoons and gradually increase. DONOT FORCE
FEED

2.Introduce new food in the morning to check for allergy or reactions .3 DAYS RULE FOR TRYING NEW FOODS IS OBSELETE NOW(not necessary)

3.Start with vegetables, cereals and then to fruits to avoid sweet preference by babies

4.Consistency of porridge and puree should be thick so that it does not fall from the spoon which enables energy density .

5.Start with semi solids after 6 months and not liquids .NEVER GRIND FOOD IN A MIXIE –It is very tough to transition babies .To normal foods and also the
nutrients are lost when food is broken to tiny bits

1.Gradually transition to solids with thicker consistency or hand mashed solids

3.Ragi,rice,banana,apple,Sathumaavu are stool binders so they constipate, give P fruits like Plums, Prune(dry plums),Dry grapes or raisins, Papaya,
Pineapple to loosen motion during difficult times. Even rava and whole wheat softens stool.(Give ragi,rice and cereals during loose motion to tighten and
avoid fruits )

BY 9 MONTHS OLD NON VEG –MUTTON KHEEMA,MUTTON LIVER AND ORGAN MEAT (liver,heart)

BY 10 MONTHS OLD SEA FOOD- CRAB,PRAWNS

BY 12 MONTHS OLD-CHICKEN AND OTHER NON VEG FOOD

AVOID NON VEG SOUP, give meat in shredded, mashed or ground form .Animal foods are highest source of iron and proteins so do not wait till 1 year to
introduce non veg food to prevent iron deficiency in babies. Babies can digest animal foods

FOR VEGETARIANS and NON VEGETARIANS

1.Include all paruppu(thuvaram paruppu,paasi paruppu,kadala paruppu),konda kadalai,rajma,karuppu ellu,cauliflower,keerai,all green vegetables and

Colourful vegetables everyday ,these are sources of protein and iron .Also use lots of millets(siru thaaniyam like saamai,guthurai vaali).

2.Use 1 green and 1 orange/red vegetable everyday in baby food. Try to include 3 vegetables in a day and 1-2 fruits.

3.Add vitamin c rich foods to absorb iron from food

Dry roast separately ellu,ulundhu and kadala paruppu.Add spices and grind and store in air tight container. Add nallennai with rice and add this powder and
mix and feed babies
