Algebraic Expressions
Mathematics 7
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the student shall be able to:
A. differentiate constant, variable and algebraic expression.
B. solve the problem involving constant, variables and algebraic expressions.
C. value the importance of Fundamentals of algebra.
Questions:
a. In one week what are the heights of a plant and an empty flower pot?
In 2 weeks? In 3 weeks?
List down the data.
b. What happens to plant after several weeks? To the empty flower pot?
Activity
1. The students will be group into 10 consisting of 7 to 8 members.
2. Each group will be given an activity sheets.
3. The groups will answer the following problem given to complete the table.
4. They will be given 5 minutes to answer and finish the activity.
5. After 5 minutes the groups will pass the papers.
6. The teacher will post the table written on chart for the student to put
their answer.
7. The teacher will call random members of the group to complete the table.
8. Checking of output.
Activity Proper
Joey sells apples to the group of students. Ana bought one for herself for only 5 pesos and Roy
bought 3 apples and he paid 15 pesos. The other students also bought respective numbers of apple.
How much will the other students pay to Joey?
Number of Apples 1 3 5 7 10 13 14
Cost 5 15
Analysis
Abstraction
Number of Apples 1 3 5 7 10 13 14
Cost 5 15 25 35 50 65 70
Number of apple x 5
y x 5 or 5y
Check if the expression is correct.
For y = 1, 5(1) = 5
Y =3 5(3) = 15
Y= 5, 5(5) = 25
y = 7, 5(7) = 35
Y =10, 5(10) = 50
Y= 13, 5(13) = 65
y = 14, 5(14) = 70
The expression 5y, where y represents as the number of apples the student bought is
an example of Algebraic expression.
5 is the constant
y is the variable
