Reader’s Response

The interaction of the text and the reader create meaning by means of giving or using some
words that are “slang” and intended to comprehend by today’s generation such as mens as monthly
period. First, I considered the word mens as wrong because men alone is plural but why it has‘s’? But
when I read I get the point why it is used. Some text such as she and Michael were together in the
embassy brings me a thought of love story. And as I read more, the story is not only focusing on the
monthly period of the character but also on the other side of her life which is her love story. That her
father didn’t want her to have in the text where she came back home at 6:30pm.

As we sight some quote that supports the text in the story, we use, “Enjoy the life of being
youth.” This clearly shows that the character did in the story such as playing domino using the scrabble
tiles, playing across the street like langit lupa, patintero, and shake shake shampoo. It simply
characterizes the life of youth as she separates into being lady.

The author may be wrote this story I think because of her experience she faced in her youth life.
It interprets how the life of a young girl turns into mature. That after her younger sister first got monthly
period she was excited to have that to. But in sense of some demand she discovered, she was sad
looking the stain of her panty. This clearly shows how hard what it has of facing menstruation.
Something may be changed; somebody would change and has a lot of responsibilities to be faced unlike
of being a young girl.

Feminism Approach

This shows of how the girl facing the reality waits on her life when she gets mature. One of
these realities is the love she felt when she was with her friend Michael. By that day she discovers that
Michael was handsome and when her father accused the two of them as lover, she was afraid that when
she is called lady there are some demands to be faced as a responsibility.

Feminist focuses on the equal rights of men and women. That, in the story the character or the
author wants to show the hardship of having menstruation especially every month that men don’t
experience. Menstruation, at its world has many points to be discussed in the life of women such as
maturity, purity, and taking some responsibilities that men can’t do.

By making this statement, I would praise the heart of the author that she showed to us like me,
a man that appreciates the hardship of having menstruation as sign of being matured. Girl power is
shown upon I read and reflect the inner point of the story.
