Preface
The book covers a MSP/DRILEX choke valves, which is product of
MSP/DRILEX.

The procedures included in this book are to be performed in conjunction


with the requirements and recommendations outlined in API Specifications.
Any repairs to the equipment covered by this book should be done by the
authorized MSP/DRILEX service representative MSP/DRILEX will not be
responsible for loss or expense resulting from any failure of equipment or any
damage to any property or injury or death to any person resulting in whole or
in part from repairs shall also serve to terminate any contractual or other
warranty, if any, on the equipment and may also result in the equipment no
longer meeting applicable requirements

File copies of the manual are maintained. Revisions and /or additions will
be made as deemed necessary by MSP/DRILEX. The drawings in this book
are not drawn to scale, but the dimensions are accurate.

Chapter I Summary

MSP/DRILEX chokes have a wide range of throttling utilities, such as

pipeline, wellhead, production manifold, choke manifold, logging and

chipping。

LT chokes are designed to avoid the defects of needle chokes,with size

of flange and gasket ring both satisfying API 6A. LT chokes contribute a

variable range of flow rates,with major range of throttling bore sizes. If

unchangeable flow is required,the choke valve can be caging to provide the

unchangeable flow,and thus meet variable demands of clients.

LT choke trims and valve stems are constructed with tungsten carbide

coating of hi-anti-corrosion and rust-resistant characteristic,having long

service life.

LT choke valve has blow-down valve on the body,and is easy to

discharge inner pressure of valve cavity.

LT choke valve applies particular structure and seal material to pack off

the bonnet, withstand hi-pressure, reliable seal, and long life.

Chapter III Structure

LT choke valve consists of valve body, packing box, bonnet, exhaust valve,

hand wheel (as follow).

Chapter IV Assembly of Choke Valve

1.1. Preparation

Prepare all the spare parts according to the spare parts list and the

quantity of valves. Clean and lubricate all parts, especially the thread,

hole and bowl.

1.2. Installing tools:

1.2.1. Wrench

1.2.2. Hammer

1.2.3. Screwdriver

1.2.4. Allen wrench

1.2.5. Grease

1.2.6. 1500 ft-lb torque wrench

1.3. Installation procedure.

1.3.1. Check and lubricate the valve body.(1)inner packing surface and

thread.

1.3.2. Check and lubricate the valve trims(2)exterior packing surface;

1.3.3. Wipe grease on the O-ring(3)


,fill in valve trims(2) into the seal bath

on exterior surface;

1.4. Wipe grease on the gasket ring(4)


,then lay up it on the inner packing

surface of valve body;(Drawing 2)

1.5. wipe the grease on the thread(2), prepare to put it into the valve body

1.6. Join the valve trims(2)thread and valve body (1) thread together, screw

up the valve trims by wrench. Installation torque is 500 ft.lbs ;

1.7. clean and lubricate the packing box(10)sealing position,move on seal

retainer(33)

1.8. place locknut(31), dust ring(32)in turn onto valve stem(5)


,install

packing box(10) with seal retainer(33), tighten the locknuts.(Drawing

7-8)

1.9. Clean the seal groove and seal ring on the upper surface of the valve

body, lubricate a thick grease evenly, then, place the seal ring

horizontally into the seal groove (Refer to Drawing 9)

1.10. Put the valve stem which has equipped with packing box on the valve

core assembly. During assembly, focus the seal ring with the ring groove

1.1 Lubricate the distance ring (34), stem seal (35), xenon ring (36), cone ring

(37) with grease and place them on the packing box. (Refer to 12-13-14)

1.11.Clean and lubricate internal surface bore of the bonnet and then place the

valve stem on the packing box. ( Refer to Drawing 15)

1.12.Lubricate the grease on the pin, then assemble the pin bore, after that,

lubricate the internal ring with grease and place on the pin;(Refer to

Drawing 16-17)

1.13.Clean and lubricate the distance collar than place it on the bonnet.(Refer

to 18)

1.14. Place the bear into the bonnet, clean and lubricate the transfer nuts, put

another bear and pushing ring on the transfer nuts, lubricate the thread

with grease, then, assemble on the valve stem. During assembly, rotating

the transfer nut clockwise until it stops (Refer to 19)

1.15.Lubricate the dust ring with grease, then put into bonnet, after that place

them on the bonnet together. (Refer to Drawing 20)

1.16.Clean the transfer nut and hand wheel and lubricate the grease, then,

place the hand wheel on the transfer nut, after that, place the key and

lock screws. (Refer to 21)

1.17.Clean the thread on the release valve lubricate with grease, than, place

them on the valve body. (Refer to Drawing 22)

1.17.1. Place the bottom nut on the bonnet

1.18.Rotating the hand wheel clockwise until it stops, assemble the scan

bushing on the stem. Line the “0” on the scan bushing with the V defects.

After that, screw the nut. (Refer to 23)

1.19.Assemble the thread and nut, screw them with wrench, the torque is

500ft.lbs;(Refer to Drawing 24)

1.19.1. When using the button gun to inject the grease into the vale should be

full. This is the end of the assembly.

1.20.Notice: Place the choke valve and Christmas Tree or other places, the

flow direction should be noticed, the flow mark on the body is the flow

direction of choke valve.

Chapter V Storage Regulation

1.1. Less than 6 month storage

1.1.1. Clean the attached parts and lubricate the parts

1.1.2. Store the seal according to 5.3 regulation.

1.1.3. Lubricate the internal assembly by mechanical grease

1.1.4. Lift the choke valve and put it in a dry room, stay away from water

1.2. Longer than 6 month storage

1.2.1. Clean all the parts and keep them dry

1.2.2. Lubricate all the parts with heavy oil

1.2.3. Protect all the seal surface by protector

1.2.4. Lift the choke valve and put it in a dry room, stay away from water

1.2.5. Before re-assembly, clean them and lubricate them with light oil.

1.3. Storage and check of rubber parts

1.3.1. All the rubber parts are manufactured by special material to maintain its

long service life. The below items can contribute its long service life.

1.3.1.1. Direct sunshine, especially the x-ray is harmful to the rubber parts,

1.3.1.2. The O-Zone layer will be changed with the rubber elements, and the

electric element will produce the O-zone, therefore, the rubber parts

can stay away from the electric elements.

1.3.1.3. Under O-Zone layer and oxange environment, the heat can be harden

the rubber parts. Under the wet environment, especially in the heat

environment, the fungus will corrosive the rubber parts.

1.3.1.4. Different size, element and function of the rubber parts have difference

service life, bigger rubber has longer service life than small rubber

parts. Natural integrated rubber can become bigger or small because of

the hydrogen sulphide

1.3.1.5. In conclusion, different customers can judge according to different

environment, if have some problem, change the rubber parts

immediately.

1.3.2. Storage of the rubber parts

1.3.2.1. The storage of the rubber parts should be under below environment

1.3.2.1.1. The rubber should be placed in dark environment, especially in the

room and stay away from the sun, window and artificial power.;

1.3.2.1.2. The rubber should be stored in related low temperature, (about

18°C degree)stay away from the power, electric appliance and other

high voltage equipments.

1.3.2.1.3. Do not hanger the rubber parts, put it in nature.

1.3.2.1.4. The storage place should be dry. Oil or grease should be stored in

other places.

1.3.2.1.5. For the long term storage, should be stored in a seal container and

cover with a protector.

1.3.2.1.6. The usage of the rubber should be first storage first usage.

1.3.3. Check of the rubber

1.3.3.1. Before using the rubber parts, the rubber should be bended to see if

there is a split.

1.3.3.2. Monitor if there is harden, denudation environment

1.3.3.3. If the above defect is found, change them.

Chapter VI Safety

All the parts design, manufactured and tested by MSP/DRILEX are

strictly according wit the working environment, in order to avoid the danger

and be reliability of the parts, MSP/DRILEX parts should be used.

During the operation, different notice mark should be used, the mark can

alarm the people to avoid the danger.

Do not change the internal structure of the casing head, if necessary,

contact with the engineer of MSP/DRILEX

In order to avoid the person injury, the working areas should not have

any chemical or other danger, in order to ensure a safety environment, the

below issues should be noticed:

1.1. Element the potential dangers on the working areas and other dangers

1.2. Element the leaking combustible on the working areas

1.3. Element and adjust the working method on the working areas that have

potential dangers to people
