Religious Letter addressed to the Parents - Appendix 4

Education Unit 4.1 The Bishops of WA have a duty of making sure that all Catholic Schools are teaching the RE program that has been approved.
Church Religious Education’s purpose is to offer an understanding of the Christian mission and message, guiding your child through study and research to
help them learn about the Catholic Church teachings.
If your family has a different faith we encourage you to discuss the beliefs and support the understanding of faith.
As this is a Catholic school the Religious Education units are compulsory, attending at least one thirty minute RE lesson every day, it is also expected
that they will attend Mass and other religious events within the school.
In Year 4 the Religious units explore the way individuals learn in unique ways, recognising that when people mature they tend to take a more serious
responsibility for their learning.
Within this unit the students will study the Parable of the Sower, which demonstrated how Jesus taught people how to live their lives with goodness in
their hearts. The ‘Church’ is the family of God and the students will learn that we are all followers and Apostles of God as we share and follow His
teachings.
Your child will take a closer look at the Lord’s Prayer (The Our Father), breaking down the words and meanings within the prayer allowing them to
understand what each verse is saying. Students also study the gifts and graces that individuals receive through Sacraments, and how doing this helps
us to live as God wants us to, an example of this is in Year 3 the students received the Sacrament of Penance, teaching them about the gift of God’s
love and forgiveness.
